Happy Teacher Appreciation and School Nurse Day! Happy Teacher Appreciation and School Nurse Day!

Thank you to our incredible Butler community for making Teacher Appreciation Week so special. Our staff felt truly celebrated through the thoughtful treats, pretzel and dessert day, delicious brunch, and sweet surprises. Hallway Decorating - Committee Support

On Friday, June 5th, the hallways for our Butler 5th & 6th grades will be decorated in anticipation of their time ending at Butler and beginning in Middle School! This is an honored Butler tradition where parents "pay it forward" to decorate in support of our exiting class community. With 5th & 6th Grades moving up together next year for realignment, support is needed from our parent helpers! Thank you for considering! Information below. Click here to register and support!

E-Bikes, Bicycle, E-Scooter, and Scooter Riding - Safety Standards and Expectations (Helmets)

With spring weather, there has been an increase in bike riding and scooters. A current concern is with students during arrival/dismissal. Pennsylvania state law requires all bicycle riders under the age of 12 to wear a helmet. This mandate applies to anyone operating a bicycle, riding as a passenger, or in an attached trailer or seat. Helmets must meet approved safety standards. While no law requires 12 years and older to wear a helmet, safety standards state how they protect lives.

Pennsylvania law states that individuals must be 16-years of age to ride an e-bike, while there is no law yet created for e-scooters. Therefore, no e-bikes should be ridden to Butler Elementary due to the age-restriction.

If your student rides to school, we encourage parents have a conversation with their child. Several students are riding their transports in the middle of the street during arrival and dismissal or weaving in and out of vehicles as cars are exiting during walker dismissal. We have reached out to parents in specific instances, but we want to avoid a tragedy with the increase of bike and scooter riders. For everyone who drives to school, please be cautious of student walkers and riders.

As a courtesy, please read the fact sheet below for requirements and safety standards. Information courtesy of the New Britain Township Police Department.

Butler Cell Phone/SMART Watch/Personal Device Policy

When in school, personal student cell phone/SMART Watch/device usage are to be silenced and remain in backpacks during the school day. In some instances, students need their device to monitor health status through each day, and this will remain in place. However, should there be a need for any student/home communication, it will take place with the support of the teacher/school office during the school day. These district expectations have been shared with students, and we appreciate your support with your children as we navigate each school day.

We invite you to watch a short video as a reminder about the guidelines for student use of cell phones and personal electronic devices, including smartwatches, in our schools.

Butler Concert Series - 1st & 3rd Grades - 5/11

On May 11th, Ms. Griffin directed two grade level concerts with the 1st and 3rd Grades. The first show featured our 1st Grade Creepy Creatures, who were crawling all over the risers as they sang energized songs! The costumes were awesome and they looked like they had a great time! The second show featuring our 3rd graders was all about paying homage to the birth of Rock and Roll! So many rockers performed the classics as they entertained the audience! Thanks to Ms. Griffin and the 1st and 3rd grade teams for their support and effort in preparation to the big show!

3rd Grade Chicks Have Arrived

3rd Grade classrooms were filled with “egg-citement” as they wrapped up their Life Cycles unit this week. Students cared for chick eggs until they hatched, then cared for the newborn chicks as they studied their growth, development, and habits throughout the week. The chicks returned to the farm today after providing a fun week of hands-on learning for our third graders.
