Tardy Sweeps Begin This Week

This year we will continue the practice of random tardy sweeps throughout the year. We found them to be very effective in increasing punctuality between classes which ultimately preserves instructional time. A tardy sweep is when teachers lock classroom doors after the bell to identify late students. Those found in the halls receive a before or after school detention; they will receive a written notice, and parents will be notified by phone. Students are usually back in class within one to two minutes. Last year we did them three to four times a week. This week students will receive warnings as they adjust to this practice, and the week of September 8th detentions will be assigned. Thank you for encouraging your students to be on time to class.

Free After School Program at John Landes Park Begins September 2nd.

This Free program offers Academic tutoring, Mentorship, Recreational Activities, Free Field Trips and more!

PBIS & Minga App Messages

PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is a framework that promotes a positive school culture by teaching and reinforcing respectful, responsible, and relationship-focused behaviors. At Madison, we are shifting toward more incentives and rewards for positive behavior rather than relying only on negative consequences. Using the Minga app, students will earn “Madison M-Points” for positive actions, which they can trade in at the new student store supported by our PTA, and we hope to launch the store in September. Parents and guardians will also receive text updates whenever their child is recognized for the 3 R’s, ensuring more communication about what students are doing well -- and there is no need to down load the app. Students will be able to track their points from their online Minga account on their school Chromebooks. In addition, Minga will serve as our digital hall pass system and will eventually support flexible opportunities for extra help and enrichment during the school day.
