Principal's Letter Principal's Letter

Dear Families,

As we move into April, it’s hard to believe we are entering the final stretch of the school year! This is an exciting and important time for our students as they continue learning, preparing for end-of-year assessments, and participating in special activities. We appreciate your continued support in helping our students finish the year strong.

Behavior Expectations:

With warmer weather and increased excitement, it is especially important that students continue to follow our school expectations. We are reinforcing the following:

● Respect – Treat peers, staff, and school property with kindness and care.

● Responsibility – Come prepared to learn each day, complete assignments, and follow directions.

● Safety – Keep hands and feet to yourself, walk in hallways, and make safe choices at all times.

We ask families to partner with us by reminding students that school expectations remain in place through the last day. Positive behavior helps ensure that all students can enjoy upcoming activities.

End-of-Year Activities

April and the coming months are filled with important events and celebrations:

● State Testing – Testing will take place this month. Please ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats breakfast, and arrives on time.

● Field Trips – Several grade levels will be participating in educational field trips. More information will be shared by teachers.

● Spring Events & Activities – Clubs, performances, and athletic events will continue throughout the month.

● End-of-Year Celebrations – Students who demonstrate positive behavior and meet academic expectations will be eligible to participate in special celebrations in May.

● 8th Grade Activities – Our 8th grade students will have the opportunities to participate in the DC trip, 8th grade formal and many other activities. ANY suspensions will result in removal from these activities. No refunds for the DC trip if a suspension occurs. Please help your student be successful and enjoy their last couple of weeks as an 8th grader!

Additional details and dates will be shared as we get closer to each event.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can ensure a successful and positive end to the school year for all students.

Happy Spring-Principal Schissler

E-Bike Information E-Bike Information

The City of Parma and the Parma Police Department recognize the increase in the use of E-Bikes and want everyone to be safe while operating an E-Bike or any motorized bike or scooter. Operating an E-Bike requires skill, awareness, and a mutual respect for motor and pedestrian traffic. A fall or crash at low speeds can be catastrophic, especially if you are not wearing proper protection. Bicycle-related injuries and deaths are typically highest during the months of July through October. The leading factors in crashes are bicyclists failing to yield the right-of-way and not being visible to others.

We have provided a few infographics as reference guides to help you understand the different classes and requirements for E-Bikes. Parents and guardians of juvenile operators have a responsibility to discuss the safe operation of these motorized bikes with those under their care. Ride safe, ride respectfully, ride smart, and have fun!

SAFETY TIPS:

  • Always wear a helmet – they’re life-saving and MANDATORY for E-Bike operation in Parma
  • Operate your bike focused and alert
  • Secure your shoe laces and loose pant legs
  • Share the roadways, sidewalks, and trails. Be courteous
  • Carry all items in a backpack
  • Slow down near driveways and intersections
  • Eliminate distractions – texting, listening to music, talking on your phone
  • Add a mirror to your bike
  • Add a bike safety flag (whip flag)
  • Be seen and be heard. Use lights, even during the day. Wear something reflective. Get a bell/siren/horn, or yell, “Bike coming up on your right/left”
  • Treat your E-Bike like a vehicle. Ride with traffic, obey all traffic laws, signal turns, and stay off of sidewalks to avoid pedestrian traffic
  • Take a free on-line E-Bike safety course.

Johnathan Strimpel an A+ Human Being!

Wait a minute! The words that come to mind to describe our STEM 5 Student of the Month Johnathan Strimpel all begin with "C." Johnathan is Consistent. You can always count on him to work hard, try his best and accomplish his academic goals. Johnathan is Caring. He shows kindness to everyone he meets. Johnathan is Calming. Amidst the hectic nature of a school day, a teacher can look out into the busy classroom, come across Johnathan's kind and reassuring face giving her complete attention and feel a little calmer. A peer can worry about the academic and social demands of school, spend time with Johnathan...and feel a little calmer. Isn't it strange that all these words that describe Johnathan Strimpel begin with "C"?...because he is an A+ human being!

STEM 5 Space Capstone Out of this World!

On March 20, STEM 5 launched “Our Solar System: An Interactive Experience” to the public. Families enjoyed space walking through the solar system measured to scale by planet size and distance from the Sun. They enjoyed student-generated movies of the Inner- and Outer Solar Systems inside our very own planetariums! Families could then test their knowledge through various quizzes, as well as 3D virtual and augmented reality interactives, all created by the brilliant STEM 5 engineers! Their hard work and perseverance made this capstone out of this world!

Spring fever is upon us with the sun making some appearances and longer days allowing us to play outside longer. This can also be a time that makes it tough for students to stay focused. The following students are still working hard and achieving excellent grades in their classes.

Our students of the month are:

Mr. Jaegers- Moqadasa Daderi

Mrs. Vangalio- Mohammad Sediqi

Mrs. Layhew-Tyshawn Baker

Mr. Vandervort-Iree Lardell

Ms. Mangan-Madylen Kordupel

Mrs. Porco-Taylor Ragin (Pictured with flower :)

Mohammad is our superstar student of the month!

Students are experiencing The Oregon Trail in social studies and how the country expanded.

OST math prep has started and an end of year project will start soon!

Genetics study continues in science and evolution begins soon.

English students are shocked at the influence of William Shakespeare. We learned that he added over 1700 words.

Olivia Ellis's favorite word is gossip.

Jenalis Rivera's favorite word is countless.

Mrs. Layhew's favorite word is lonely.

Soon, we will be reading/performing the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream". This is one of my favorite parts of the year because the students really enjoy plays and I try to read a few scenes outside if Mother Nature allows.
