Hello from Principal Guditus

Hello Eddy Families,

Read Across America Spirit Week was a huge success! Thank you for encouraging your students to participate and show their literacy school spirit! We saw great shirts on Friday, mystery readers on Tuesday from Nauset Regional High School, crazy hair and hats, amazing characters, and cozy pajamas! To continue our focus on literacy, we are holding our Scholastic Book Fair this week! Thank you to Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. Lister for their hard work and energy to make this a reality! 50% of proceeds come back to Eddy Elementary School to help us purchase more books for our library. Students may purchase books this week as follows:

  • Monday-Friday, 7:30-8:00am
  • Monday-Wednesday, 2:00-3:00pm
  • Thursday, 2:00-6:00pm
  • Friday, 11:30am-3:00pm
  • During library class this week

Students may purchase items with cash or with an e-wallet, which can be set up here. Grown-ups may use cash, credit, or debit card to make a purchase. Additionally, if you would like to donate towards "Share The Fair," funds donated here will be used for students who are unable to purchase a book. No donation is too small. Thank you for your consideration!

We are excited to welcome Sustainable CAPE's Meet The Farmer Program to Eddy Elementary School this week! On Monday and Tuesday, a local farmer will meet with each class for 30 minutes in the cafeteria to:

  1. plant their own seeds in a covered container to take home to grow;
  2. meet and learn about growing food from a local farmer;
  3. create and taste a nutritional smoothie using the day's featured crop: pea tendril smoothie.

This week is also Spring Conferences! You should have received an invitation directly from your student's classroom teacher withs signup information. I encourage you to attend, as this is another opportunity to keep the lines of communication open between home and school.

Finally, this Friday @ 9:45-10:45am is the Boosterthon Fun Run! If you have not yet registered your student, please do so at: https://mybooster.com/v3 and clicking the blue "I'm a parent/guardian" button. This is the PTO's biggest fundraiser each year, which helps fund field trips, enrichment, and student and teacher activities and events. If you do not want to register your student, you may donate here towards the PTO at the general fundraising page: https://give.mybooster.com/stony-brookeddy-elementary-1. Kindly share this link with family and friends! Like last year, if our two schools collectively raise $20,000, I will cut my hair as a mohawk (and this year, leave it for a few days 😁).

The fifth grade is hosting a Family Bingo Night on Wednesday, March 25 from 6-7pm at Eddy, and all are welcome to attend! We invite you to attend, and consider a donation at the door to help us raise funds for our fifth grade class trip.

This week, report cards go home on Wednesday, 3/18 and we have an early release on Friday, 3/20 @ 11am for conferences.

Finally, please make note of the the Brewster Elementary Schools FY27 Public Budget Hearing on Monday, 3/16 @ 6:30pm at Brewster Town Hall and online via Zoom.

Here's to a great week of learning at Eddy Elementary School!

Best,

Steve Guditus

Boosterthon Fun! Pie in the Face with Mrs. Shevory's Class!

Mrs. Shevory's students pied All-Star Alyssa in the face on Friday for having the most donations on Friday morning! We will continue to have pep rallies at lunch each day with Boosterthon, and your student should have come home with a lanyard last week for kickoff. Don't forget that you can create a personalized fundraiser page for your student at http://mybooster.com, or share the general donation page here: https://give.mybooster.com/stony-brookeddy-elementary-1. The Fun Run is Friday @ 9:45-10:45 at Eddy, and all family members are invited to cheer on your student! If the weather forces us inside on Friday, we will have shortened grade-level runs in the gym, and I will update you with a new schedule if that is the case...otherwise, we will see you on Friday morning @ 9:45am on the Eddy soccer field! (The Stony Brook K-2 run is Friday 8:45-9:45am at Stony Brook.)

Spring 2026 MCAS Dates

Eddy Elementary MCAS dates for this spring (April and May) can be found here: 2026 MCAS Dates. All students take two ELA sessions and two math sessions, and fifth graders also take two STE (science, technology, and engineering) sessions. Sessions are untimed and students have until the end of the day to complete the MCAS session if needed. Students who miss a session of MCAS will make it up on the designated makeup days. Typically, most students finish in about a 2.5 hour time span, during which we break for a stretch break, bathroom break, and snack.

MCAS gives our teachers and school one additional way to understand how students are developing important academic skills. They are just one part of the many ways we learn about student progress, alongside classroom work, projects, and teacher observations. Our goal is for testing to feel like a typical day of school, where students are encouraged to take their time, think carefully, and show what they know. Families can help by keeping routines consistent during testing days, ensuring children get a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast, and arrive at school feeling calm and ready for the day. As always, our focus is on supporting every student's growth and love of learning.

Farm to School Fundraiser @ Stop & Shop in Orleans

The Nauset Regional School District's Farm to School Program is always exploring innovative and creative ways to support student access to fresh, local foods, hands-on nutrition education, outdoor learning spaces like school gardens, field trip opportunities, and more. We’re excited to share that Nauset Farm to School has been selected as a partner in the Stop & Shop Community Bag Program for March 2026!

Throughout the month of March, the NPSD Farm to School Program will receive a $1 donation for every reusable Community Bag purchased at the Stop & Shop located at 24 Route 6A in Orleans, MA. Community participation helps support Farm to School initiatives across the district.

To learn more about the Nauset Regional School District's Farm to School Program, please visit the NRSD Farm to School webpage. Thank you for your continued support!

Report Cards, Conferences, and Special Education Progress Notes

Report cards will be coming home on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 in your student's backpack. Please reach out directly to your student's teacher if you have questions or concerns. Conferences are scheduled for the next two days, the afternoon/evening of Thursday, March 19, 2026 and afternoon of Friday, March 20, 2026. Your student's teacher will contact you directly regarding the conference schedule.

For those parents/caregivers whose students have an IEP: Given the missed week due to snow, we are going to use the following timeline for Term 2 special education progress notes for all students on an IEP:

  • Staff will be collecting data through March 13 and then complete progress notes by March 20.
  • Special Education progress notes will be mailed home by March 27. This timeline will allow for data collection beyond just the week after 2 weeks away from school (vacation and the blizzard).
