WELCOME BACK!!

Congratulations are in order for Coach Susan Steinfort! During our matches on Tuesday night, Coach Steinfort earned her 200th win for her career! The Lady Mustangs swept all three matches on the night with wins over Axtell, Frankfort and Blue Valley. Coach Steinfort is entering her 9th year as the head coach for Lady Mustang Volleyball so I will let you do the math and realize the scope of this milestone. Congratulations Coach – job well done!!

Don’t blink! Homecoming is going to be upon us in two weeks! Homecoming is early this year and will be celebrated on the week of September 15th through the 20th! The theme this year is “Hollywood Homecoming – Shine Bright, Friday Night”! Something different this year will be a 12:30 dismissal on Friday, September 20th. This will allow the students the opportunity to get ready for the parade which will start at 2:00 pm and will be held in Blue Rapids! We invite you all to attend this week full of activities and of course the parade, the game and our crowning ceremonies.

We are already immersed in fall activities! Organizations have been holding their first meetings of the year and our fall sports programs are in full swing. The high school football team looked strong during the Jamboree and will kick off their season with a contest against the state ranked Centralia Panthers tonight, September 6th. Game time is 7:00 pm. Our high school volleyball team is now sitting at 5 wins and 2 losses and picked up three wins this past Tuesday. We will host our first set of matches this Tuesday night, September 10th with league contests against D. West and Washington County. Let’s pack the stadium and gym with purple and cheer our athletes on to victory. Cross Country participated in their first meet of the season by travelling to Concordia on Thursday! Langston Gray won the 8th grade boys division in a time of 13:16. The high school boys were led by Kebeb Zimmerman with a 5th place finish at 19.30. Tyler Holmes clocked a 21.11 good for 18th place and Hudson Nemechek placed 26th with a time of 23.00. Brycen Claeys rounded out the boys scoring with a time of 25.06 good for 35th place. Lindsay Gray placed 10th overall in the girl’s division with a time of 25.51.

The junior high volleyball and football team played their first games of the season when we hosted Onaga. The volleyball team won all three matches on the night – varsity in three sets, JV in two and the C-Team in two. The football squad lost a close battle with Onaga on a late touchdown in the fourth quarter.

We would like to extend a special word of thanks to the members of New Hope Church in Marysville, KS for giving us a complete overhaul of our Teacher’s Lounge. A crew of 12-15 people showed up on Thursday night of last week and replaced all of our furniture, added wall hangings and floor cover and just made the whole room inviting and comfortable. We appreciate your efforts and thank you for thinking of us for the outreach.

Don’t forget that we will be hosting our first strategic planning meeting on September 9th. This is open to the public and we certainly invite all to attend. The meal starts at 5:15 pm with the meeting starting at 5:30 pm! We hope to see you there!

Go Mustangs!

Art students are "Chopping" things up!!!!!

Week one in the Art Room was very busy! With inspiration from the popular cooking show “Chopped,” students created their very own sculpture masterpiece. Students worked with a partner, and each group was given a basket of required art ingredients. These included paper clips, index cards, pipe cleaners, & straws. They could then use pantry items from the art studio to enhance their sculpture. With a time limit of 3 class periods, the creativity was bursting at the seams in the art room. Each group worked hard to come up with very unique and creative solutions to the task. Sculptures from each class were then voted on and winners were awarded a prize.
