Welcome Back Munger Hill Families
Welcome to the New School Year!
We are thrilled to welcome our returning families and extend a warm greeting to all of our new families joining our school community! Our halls and classrooms are filled with energy, and we cannot wait to see our students’ bright faces in the building for what promises to be a fantastic year of learning and growth.
As we kick off the school year, please keep a few important reminders in mind to help us keep every child safe and our days running smoothly:
Dismissal Changes: Student safety is our top priority. We will not change a student’s dismissal routine without direct written note or verbal permission provided to the main office.
Variable Dismissal Schedules: If your child has a rotating dismissal routine (e.g., riding the bus on certain days and going to after-care on others), please share this schedule directly with your child's classroom teacher.
Outdoor Recess & Weather Gear: We go outside for recess whenever possible! As the weather turns chilly, please send your child to school with appropriate outerwear—jackets, hats, and warm layers—so they can enjoy their outdoor play comfortably.
I would like to thank our families for their patience as small details are worked out during arrival and dismissal.
Thank you for your partnership, support, and trust. Let’s make this a wonderful school year together!

Attendance Matters- Every Child, Every Day, Every Classroom
Every day in school counts toward your child’s learning, and we want to start the year strong by celebrating great attendance!
To make coming to school even more exciting, we are launching a new classroom attendance challenge. Every time a class achieves 10 days of perfect attendance, they will earn a fun class reward—like extra recess, a dance party, or a pajama day.
We can't wait to celebrate our students being here, learning, and growing together every single day!
PBIS
At Munger Hill elementary we believe that every student can learn, grow, and make a difference. Our schoolwide ROAR expectations help students know what it means to be a positive member of our school community.
R- Respect others, ourselves, and our School,
O- Ownership of our learning and choices,
A- Attitude that is positive, kind and ready to learn,
R- Responsibility for our actions, learning and success.
We encourage families to talk with their children about how they can show Munger Hill ROAR everyday. Together we can help our students make positive choices and create a school where everyone feels safe, valued and ready to learn.
Nurse's Corner
Welcome to a healthy and happy new school year! As your school nurse, I am so excited to care for your children and support their health and learning this year.
A reminder if any of the following present, please keep your child home: · A fever of 100°F or higher. Your child should be fever free for 24 hours with no fever-reducing medications before returning to school. · A contagious illness such as COVID, influenza (flu), or chicken pox. · If your doctor has given antibiotics for strep throat, impetigo, or pink eye. Your child needs to complete 24 hours of antibiotics before returning to school. · Diarrhea or vomiting in the last 24 hours. · Continuous cough or wheeze · Crusty eyes and/or green or yellow drainage from the eyes. · Rash that could be contagious. Please have unknown rashes checked by your medical provider. · If diagnosed with scabies, return after completing 24 hours of treatment with a provider’s note to return. · If your child seems ill, has upper respiratory illness with significant sneezing, coughing, nasal congestion or discharge, or feels too ill to participate in school. If your student has ANY illness that makes them unable to eat/drink/sleep or otherwise carry out their normal school activities without pain, discomfort or fatigue, please keep them home until the illness has passed.
Thank you so much for your partnership in keeping our school community safe and healthy!
Munger Hill PTO
Did you know that our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) plays a huge role in making our school a vibrant place to learn? The PTO bridges the gap between home and school by funding classroom resources, sponsoring fun family events, organizing student assemblies, and showing appreciation for our dedicated teachers throughout the year. Every family is automatically a part of our PTO community, and we would love for you to get involved! Whether you can volunteer your time, attend monthly meetings, or support our fundraisers, your involvement makes a direct impact on our students. Our meetings fall on the second Wednesday of the month. Our meetings for September and October are held in person from 6:00-7:00 pm. Meetings in November-March will be held virtually. We can't wait to work together!
School Council
We are looking for community members to be on our school council. What does a school council do?
Advises School Leadership: Offers input on school policies, instructional goals, and educational priorities.
Supports the School Improvement Plan: Helps review student progress and provides feedback on annual learning and climate goals.
Represents Our Community: Brings a range of parent and neighbor perspectives to discussions about what our students need to thrive.
Strengthens Home-School Connections: Fosters open communication between families, teachers, and school administrators.
If you are interested in being on the school council, please email Mrs. Burgess at s.burgess@schoolsofwestfield.org.
