Dear Leeds Family,

Welcome back to what we believe will be the best school year yet at Leeds. Late August/early September is truly such a special time of year. We get to witness the beauty of the changing seasons and embrace the excitement of the fall activities and athletic events. Most importantly, we get to welcome back the heart of our Leeds community--each and every one of you!

We feel incredibly fortunate to work with such a dedicated and talented team of custodians,

custodians, paraprofessionals, office staff, teachers, and support staff. Their hard work and commitment play a crucial role in achieving our school's goals and vision. Every day, we are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such an exceptional group.

As we embark on this new school year, we want to share a few important reminders:

  • Attendance: Please ensure your student(s) arrive at school every day, on time, and ready for an enriching day of learning.
  • Absences: If your child will be absent for any reason, kindly notify us as soon as possible.
  • Drop-off/Pick-up: For student safety, please drop off students in the front of the building starting at 8:00 AM if they are having breakfast. If they do not need breakfast, please wait until 8:20 AM to drop them off. This helps ensure proper supervision and safety for all our students. The rear driveways are for our bus service only. We want to ensure our buses have a safe area to drop off our students. Thank you for helping keep our students safe.

We hope this message finds you well and excited as we begin another fantastic school year. Here's to a successful and joyful year ahead!

Warm regards,

Ron Koch, Principal

Hello!

I am Stephanie Roskilly and I am the Leeds Elementary School Counselor! I know many of you know me but I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself to those of you who may not and give you an idea of what a school counselor does!

This is my 4th year at Leeds and 8th year in the Sioux City Schools. I was previously in one of the high schools, where I worked with primarily freshman students. Coincidentally, or maybe not so if you know a freshman, that position prepared me very well for working with elementary students! I love working with students and am so excited to see all of your kids again, or for the first time, this fall!

As the School Counselor, I get to work with students individually, in small groups, and in their classrooms. I am fortunate to be able to work in their classrooms multiple times throughout the year where I teach about how your brain reacts to stress, conflict resolution, career readiness, and many other topics. Small groups can cover topics such as friendship, self-confidence, coping skills, behavior management, transition to middle school, plus many more. Individually, I work with students on a short-term basis. This means that I can support in the moment by providing and teaching coping skills, help solve smaller problems, provide check-ins or follow-ups on problems, and provide support in a crisis. I cannot provide long-term therapy for larger concerns, but I can help your family seek out additional support if requested. The reason these expectations exist is because I am only one person for all of the students in our building.

I want to end by saying thank you. Thank you for all the support you will provide your student and their classmates. Thank you for supporting their teachers and all the other Leeds staff. And thank you for trusting us to care for and educate your amazing children.

I am so excited to begin this school year!

Mrs. Roskilly
