BE EPICER @ CTE
At Cherokee Trail we focus on six traits, teaching and fostering them in our classrooms and school-wide in order to create learners who are strong academically and socially.
They are:
ENTHUSIASM * PERSEVERANCE * INTEGRITY * COURAGE * EMPATHY * RESPECT
Read more on the EPICER page!
In APRIL we will be focusing on the EPICER trait of R-E-S-P-E-C-T:
* I listen carefully to adults and students and do not interrupt
* I show empathy when interacting with others
* I accept feedback and respond in a positive way
* I own my actions and make things right
* I use manners

CMAS BEGINS NEXT WEEK!
With Spring Break behind us and the end of the school year not far off, it is time for state testing for students in grades 3-6. In Colorado that is CMAS, or Colorado Measures of Academic Success.
CMAS will start next Monday, April 6th and will run (for some students) through April 16th. We develop our testing schedule so that: students get their specials every day, and so students have to take no more than one test per day. Please see CTE's full Testing schedule here.
In order to support your student(s) we suggest the following:
- Please ensure that your student gets a good night's sleep before testing
- Please help your student make healthy choices for breakfast on the mornings of testing
- Please send a healthy snack to school with your student on their testing days
- Please double check with your student that they have headphones in their classroom that work (no bluetooth headphones are permitted)
- Finally, phones, smart watches, smart glasses, and other electronic devices are not permitted in the testing environment. Students who bring these devices to school will place them in a secure container and will not have access to them while testing. We value your partnership in this.
While CTE encourages all students to participate in these assessments, we recognize that CMAS may not be suitable for every student. Parents who wish to excuse their student from the state-mandated testing may do so by completing the official excusal form process, accessible here: Excusal Process.
Finally, further details regarding state-mandated testing can be found on the Cherokee Trail Elementaryโs website's State Mandated Testing Information page.
THE PRINCIPAL CHRONICLES
The Principal Chronicles continue ...
As I write this, it is the last day of March, winter still never showed up, and we are about to step into April (our testing month). All over the building, our rooms are transforming into sterile testing environments, our teachers are getting stressed out over all of the rules we have to follow, schedules are changing, and nothing fun really happens until we get to May. In order to maintain a consistent testing environment, our classrooms have to cover up most of their walls (where posters and information are hanging), move desks apart, and basically be a hospital room. It is so gross, but we have to do what we have to do.
Outside of that, there really isn't much going on here at CTE besides Wish Week. I love Wish Week. It is where our whole feeder surrounds a student with a medical condition in order to raise money for them to realize their wish. It is really fun and the kids get excited about it. At the end of Wish Week, there is a big assembly at Chaparral High School to reveal how much money our feeder raised for Wish Week. It is one of my favorite times of the year. It always brings a smile to my face.
On the home front, it is about time to move again. My lease is up in June and I am going to downsize since I don't need a bedroom for my one and only anymore. It is kind of strange, but I have moved so much in the past four years, it isn't that big of a deal anymore. All I have to do now is figure out where I want to live. I really like where I live in Lone Tree but I may look to move back west to Littleton, or maybe more south and check out Castle Rock, or maybe I'll just stay right where I am but just in a smaller place. My daughter of course is crushed that she won't have a bedroom at my house. It was definately a tough conversation with her as she didn't understand that I don't really need to pay for a bedroom that collects dust. The next issue will be what to do with all of her stuff. That is a whole different chronicles all together.
That is it for this weeks episode, stay tuned for next week when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
