Last Day of School
It's probably hard to think about summer vacation as flurries fall outside, but please note that the last day of school for students has changed to Friday, June 12, 2026. It will be a FULL day, no early dismissal. Teachers, however, still have a work day on Monday, June 15, 2026.
This is a change from the previously approved calendar, so please update your plans accordingly. It was discussed and approved at the school-board meeting on March 18, 2026.

It's still cold AND things are thawing!
Reminder that it is still winter/cold and winter gear is needed for recess. It is also early spring thaw, and kids are getting wet!
* Please continue to have students bring their gear (especially boots, snow pants, mittens/gloves) to school each day. We do not have enough gear for all students who forget theirs.
* Please dry wet gear at home each evening. We do not have enough gear for students to borrow because their gear is wet.
* Also, please make sure students have a change of clothes in their bags - at a minimum: dry shoes, dry socks, maybe dry pants. We do not have clothes/shoes on hand for wet students.
Upcoming Events and Activities
- March 27 - Report cards distributed in Alma
- March 27 - 6pm - Hobby Horse Basketball at GVS gymnasium
- March 30 - No school for students - Teacher Workday

State Testing Letter
February 6, 2026
Dear Grantham Village School Parent/Guardian,
Each year, New Hampshire public and chartered public schools are required by state law (RSA 193-C) and federal accountability laws (Every Student Succeeds Act) to assess students using a standardized assessment. These assessments help evaluate student progress and guide instruction. To learn more, visit the New Hampshire Department of Education’s Office of Assessment webpage.
At Grantham Village School students in grades 3 through 6 will participate in the English Language Arts (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics assessments. Our 5th grade students will also be assessed in Science. Grantham Village School will administer these assessments in May. It is beneficial if you try to avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during the testing dates. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and good breakfast, prior to testing. Let us know if your child will not be here on the scheduled testing date as we need to arrange for a makeup time.
Statewide assessments are an important part of a student’s core educational program. They measure student mastery of core academic skills, inform classroom instruction, and support learning recovery. In addition to classroom assignments, projects, essays, and local formative and summative assessments, statewide summative assessment results provide teachers and parents with valuable insight into students’ progress on their path toward academic success.
Average Testing Times Grades 3-6:
English Language Arts/Reading: 60-75 minutes
Writing: 60-75 minutes
Mathematics: 60-75 minutes
Science (Grade 5 only): 60-75 minutes
Parents may access NH SAS practice tests by going to the NH SAS assessment portal at: Students and Families. Results of the assessments are typically available shortly after a student completes the test. Parents can view test results through the Family Portal using an access code. Please contact us to obtain one. We will also send individual reports home when they become available. While state testing is not our only focus, it is an indicator of your child’s progress and the school’s effectiveness in general. A parent / guardian can request an exemption for the assessment, by contacting Kristen Reed to request an exemption form. The form must be completed and submitted prior to the start of the assessment dates. However, it should be noted that a parental request for exemption does result in the school receiving a zero for that student. We are required to have at least 95% of students in grades 3-6 complete the assessment. If you have any questions related to the assessment administration, you may contact our School Counselor, Kris Widmann. Thank you for supporting your student! Sincerely, Kristen Reed, School Principal Kris Widmann, School Counselor

Quick Fact Fluency Practice
These days, families are busier than ever, juggling the many enriching opportunities that come with children’s extracurricular activities. Practicing math fact fluency with your child, however, doesn’t have to be difficult. Below are a few quick and easy ways to build fact fluency on the go:
Flash Cards – While sometimes overlooked, flash cards are an inexpensive and efficient way to practice math facts. Keep a set in the car for use during downtime, such as while waiting for siblings, or have students quiz themselves independently.
Deck of Cards – Games like War (also called “Top-It”) are a fun way to practice addition, subtraction, or multiplication. Start with a standard deck, removing face cards (or assigning them values like 20, 30, and 40). Place the deck in the center, and have each player draw two cards, then quickly add, subtract, or multiply the numbers. The player with the highest result wins the round. The player with the most cards at the end wins the game.
Apps – There are many apps available for practicing math facts, but one standout option is Math Fact Lab. For a small annual fee, students can practice for just 15 minutes a day. What makes this app especially effective is its use of visual supports to help students better understand and retain challenging facts.
Adding one more task to an evening routine can feel like too much; however, the benefits of practicing math facts make those few minutes each night highly worthwhile.
Grantham Village School, the Grantham School District/SAU 75, and the Grantham School Board proudly partner with various non-profit and community organizations to enrich our students' experience.
