The Art of Conversation

Attendees will learn how the principles and practices of conversation can enable them to live better and work well. By examining and exploring our personal attitudes to the art of conversation we may enhance our ability to build authentic relationships with clients, colleagues, and neighbors that are engaging, trusting, and fulfilling.

In this interactive session, attendees will delve deeply into the art of conversation by exploring several key principles and practices of our conversational skills. Attendees will:

‣ Consider the history and benefits of conversation.

‣ Examine the principles and practices of conversation and put them into practice during the session.

‣ Identify and articulate how their insights can be applied directly to their work and relationships.

Attendees will also leave the session with new skills, fresh mindsets, and specific ideas to apply in their own work and life. After the session an electronic version of the session synopsis and further resources booklet will be available.

Stuart Chittenden

Born in sight of England’s Canterbury Cathedral, Stuart has called Omaha home since 2004. Formerly a London lawyer and an Omaha brand consultant, since 2016 he has dedicated 100% of his time and efforts to Squishtalks, a conversation social practice he founded in 2010. Promoting the art of conversation, Squishtalks has collaborated with numerous community groups and businesses. One such community project was “a couple of 830 mile long conversations,” which inspired the subject of his TEDxLincoln talk “Awakening Humanity through Conversation.” In an RV, Stuart adventured for four weeks along side roads and among small towns to talk with Nebraskans, discovering the lives, cultures and stories of people he met. Stuart also collaborates with creativity expert Dan Gilbert to help individuals and organizations creatively realize their best futures. Stuart’s poetry and other writing has appeared in several literary journals.
