EHMSNewsletterSeptember 2026

Dear Families,

The 26-27 school year is off and running as we begin the first full month of school. Learning and extra-curriculars are in full swing. We highly recommended getting involved and attending some of our fall sports, theater, or musical events! Some are listed below in our September Important Dates, and the rest can be seen on the Elyria Schools webpage. At EHMS, we use our school Facebook page to communicate upcoming events, and to share photos afterward. If you aren't already, make sure to follow. Lastly, we appreciate parents for learning and adhering to our drop-off and pick-up procedures. It allows for a safe and efficient beginning and end of day. If you have any questions, as always, please call our main office!

Sincerely,

Jake Keefe and Dana Cerrito

On September 24th, we will be having our first parent teacher conferences of the year. We encourage all caregivers to attend. It's an ideal time to learn about your child's progress in school, goals for the year, and areas that you can best support at home. Our conferences will take place from 2:30-7pm. See us with any questions! Hope to see you there!

With that said, students must walk them upon coming onto the Heights campus and walk them when leaving campus. This ensures the safety of everyone during high traffic times. Cell Phones and Attire Cell Phones and Attire

As we begin the new year, we ask that you please review the ECS Code of Conduct with your Pioneer. It outlines the expectations for all ECS students while at Heights. It's been linked below for your convenience. As always, if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our main office.

We often get questions about attire and cell-phones. Hoodies, and similar tops or jackets with hoods, are "fan favorites" when it comes to school attire. We like them, too, but not when they are worn up and over the head during the school day.

The district's Student Code of Conduct provides direction on headgear, stating that it may not be worn over a person's head or scalp (excluding headgear that's worn for religious or medical reasons.) Hoods can make it difficult to identify an individual in an emergency, and they can also be a distraction in class. Please remind students that hoods may not be worn up during the school day.

The Student Code of Conduct also offers guidance on attire. Clothing must be school appropriate and may not present a health or safety hazard or disrupt the educational environment. Pants and tops must fit properly and be in good repair; crop tops are not permitted.

Additionally, footwear must be school appropriate--slippers and slipper socks are not permitted. Blankets also may not be worn in school.

Students may bring their cell phones to school but they must be turned off and put away during the day. Same rules apply to Bluetooth headphones--they may not be worn during the school day.

If you need to reach your student during the school day, please contact the main office and our staff will convey a message or assist you in reaching your student.

Please review the map to help our drop-off and pick-up times run safely and smoothly. *IMPORTANT- Please make sure that our handicapped parking spaces are only used by designated vehicles. Other cars should not use them during drop-off/pick-up times.
