A Message From Principal Comeiro
We are excited to welcome our students back for the 2026–2027 school year! Our first day of school is Wednesday, September 2, and we are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, growth, and community.
The first week of school is always an exciting time as students reconnect with friends, meet their teachers, become familiar with their schedules, and settle into their routines. Our staff has been working hard to prepare for a successful start, and we are eager to see our hallways filled with energy and excitement.
I welcome the opportunity to hear directly from families about your experiences and perspectives. If you would like to connect, please use my calendar link to select a date and time that is most convenient for you. I look forward to speaking with you and learning more about how we can best support our students and families.
As we begin the year, we encourage students to come to school on time, engage in their own learning, build relationships, and make the most of the opportunities at BHS. We appreciate your partnership as we work together to help every student have a positive and successful school year.
Warm regards.
Kim

ANNOUNCEMENTS
FREE School Breakfast & Lunch Information
Free Meals for All Students
- All students can get one free lunch and one free breakfast each school day.
- Breakfast will be available from 7:25 am - 7:40 am each morning and during break.
- Students must take a complete meal for it to be free. A complete meal contains at least 3 of the 5 offered components, and 1 has to be a fruit or vegetable. This means if a student doesn’t take a complete meal, they will be charged the à la carte price for the items they have.
Adding Money for Extras
- Students need funds for: Snacks, Extra Milk or Water, and Second Meals or Entrees
- Add funds online at MySchoolBucks.com (a small fee applies).
- Or prepay at the register using cash or check (no fee)
- Make checks payable to Bedford School Lunch Program.
Why Fill Out the Free Meal Application?
Even though the meals are free for all, it is important for all families to complete the Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals each year. The information you provide helps Bedford secure important federal funding, waive local fees, and serve our families most effectively.

New Device Protection Program for Grades 6-12
This year, Bedford Public Schools is offering a new voluntary device protection program for school-issued Chromebooks and iPads used by students in Grades 6–12.
For $50 per student, enrolled families receive $0-deductible coverage for damage, theft, loss, and hardware or battery failure. Families who do not enroll will be invoiced for each repair or replacement, with costs ranging from $50 to $420; outside or individually purchased insurance plans will no longer be accepted in place of the district program. Families who purchased individual insurance in a multi-year plan from Worth Ave (the district's former insurance partner) will still have that insurance honored.
Families who need financial assistance may also request a confidential fee waiver through the same link using our streamlined process. Automatic waivers are processed for families using state services or MassHealth.
Why Consider Enrolling?
Without device protection, families remain responsible and will be invoiced for the cost of damage, loss, or theft of a school-issued device. Depending on the repair needed, those costs can range from $50 to $420.
What the $50 Device Protection Program Covers
Damage, including cracked screens and liquid spills
Theft or loss
Hardware and battery failure
The BPS Technology Department will handle all repairs and replacements directly, helping ensure that students have continued access to a working device tech_support@bedfordps.org
Questions may be directed to FeePayments_Waivers@bedfordps.org.
If You Choose Not to Enroll
Participation is voluntary. Families who do not enroll will continue to be financially responsible for damage, loss, or theft of their student’s district-issued device and will be invoiced according to the repair fees referenced below. Beginning this year, outside or individually purchased device insurance plans will not be accepted in place of the district program.
Please visit NEW BPS Device Protection Program to sign-up or apply for a waiver.

Schedule Change Requests
Students may request to add or drop classes with their School Counselor through the 18th school day. This year, the schedule change request period is September 2, 2026 through September 29, 2026. Requests for schedule changes will be considered based on the individual student’s needs and the space available in the schedule. If a student withdraws from a course prior to the 18th day (September 29), the course will not appear on the student’s transcript.
Requests for schedule changes after September 29 will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the teacher, content-area Program Administrator, and Director of Counseling. If a student withdraws from a course, including changing a course level, after the above deadline, a W (Withdrawal) will appear on the student’s transcript for the course that was dropped.
Options for Schedule Change Requests:
1. Beginning Tuesday, September 1, email your counselor with details about the requested changes.
- If you are missing a class from your schedule (there is a "hole" in your schedule), send your top three choices, in order of preference
- If you would like to change a class that you are currently enrolled in, include the course you would like to drop and why, plus your top three choices, in order of preference, to take its place
- Counselors will respond to email requests within 2 school days
- *UPDATE* If you received a requested or alternate course and would like to request a change, these changes will be addressed beginning, after one 6-day cycle of courses, on Monday, September 14.
2. Beginning on Tuesday, September 1, use the link below to schedule a 15-minute appointment with your counselor. Please be mindful of the class you are missing for this appointment. Students who are missing a class are encouraged to schedule during that period.
- *UPDATE* If you received a requested or alternate course and would like to request a change, please book an appointment beginning Monday, September 14.

Lockers
Students are not pre-assigned a locker. To sign out a lock, please complete the form or come to the main office during break or lunch.
Student Parking
Parking at Bedford High School is $250 per school year, and is available by permit only. Parking is a privilege for students who are licensed drivers. Learn more about Parking Permits on our website.
Student permits will be allocated by lottery, with priority given by grade-level:
- Seniors: First lottery
- Juniors: Remaining spaces will be allocated by lottery
- Sophomores: If spaces remain after the junior lottery, they will be allocated by lottery
Students must have a valid MA driver's license at the time of the lottery to be eligible for a parking space.
Students selected through the lottery must pay the full year parking fee by October 1, 2026. Students who do not pay by the deadline will forfeit their space, and the permit will be offered to a student on the waiting list.
Student Parking Rules:
All cars must display their permit on the rear window of the registered vehicle.
Students may park only in spaces designated for high school students. Parking in unauthorized spaces (including EV parking), in fire lanes, or on the grass is prohibited.
Students must drive responsibly. Driving responsibly includes, but is not limited to:
Driving at the posted speed
Being courteous
Following the correct traffic pattern
Entering and exiting the property appropriately
Wearing your seat belt
Parking properly within marked lines
Restricting the number of passengers in a car to the vehicle’s intended limit, and
Ensuring that the noise level is suitable for the environment.
Students who are consistently tardy, or who are found leaving campus, loitering outside of the building during the school day, driving dangerously, or parking their vehicle in an unauthorized area will lose parking privileges for up to one school year.
Students who park unregistered vehicles in reserved spaces or unauthorized areas will lose lottery eligibility the following year and may be ticketed by the Bedford Police Department.
If privileges are revoked, the permit will be removed from that student’s vehicle.

- Students are asked to stop by the health office during the first week of school to review used and provide the expiration date.
Guidelines for When Your Child Is Sick
Knowing when to keep your child home from school due to illness can sometimes be a difficult
decision. Much depends on what type of symptoms your child has. When making this decision,
please keep in mind the following guidelines.
Keep your child at home if any one of the following occurs:
Vomiting within the last 24 hours
Diarrhea within the last 24 hours
Temperature of 100 degrees F or higher within the last 24 hours without anti-fever medication
Strep is suspected, but results of the culture have not been confirmed
Positive throat culture for strep
Student may return 24 hours after antibiotic treatment has begun
Any symptoms of acute illness such as persistent cough, runny nose with body aches
Your child should be able to control nasal secretions with proper use of tissues.
If there is a cough, it should be infrequent and not likely to be disruptive to the class.
Your child should feel that they could get through the planned school day without exclusion from outdoor recess or gym.
Your child should look and behave like him/herself for 24 hours before returning to school.
Why???
- To protect your child from exposure to more infection before he/she is able to build resistance.
- To protect the other children and staff from communicable disease transmission.
Remember- HAND WASHING is the most effective means of preventing the spread of communicable diseases!!!
To help prevent the spread of communicable diseases at school, please report all communicable
illnesses (i.e. strep throat, bacterial infections, Fifth disease, etc.) to the Attendance Line or contact the school nurse directly.
Please call your child’s school nurse if you have any questions or you need help determining whether your child is well enough to attend school.
Please review the Massachusetts DPH respiratory virus guidelines link - MA DPH Respiratory Virus Guidance update
