Honor the Past, Prepare for the Future, Participate Now
Mr. Mauck's Musings
9/25 (nine two five) is officially Dolly Parton Day in some states and municipalities across the country. Today also concludes College Go Week where some in-state college application fees are waived. The JHS Student Academic Services office has promoted the week with college facts and they are conducting individual meetings with the Juniors. Several seniors took advantage of t college fair hosted in Huntingburg this week. Our counselors wanted me to share that the Dubois County Community Foundation scholarship applications are now open with a deadline of October 5th. Please encourage your seniors to apply for the many scholarship opportunities available! Here’s the online application. Also the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now open. A reminder to all seniors and their parents, the State of Indiana mandates the completion of the FAFSA, or a waiver, as a graduation requirement. Log in today and create your account to fulfill this requirement. On Monday, September 28th Jostens will be delivering some of the senior graduation apparel and accessories. Caps and gowns may still be ordered and will be delivered on a different date.
School Notes:
Last week we recognized our National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist. This week we get to honor Ms. Haley Hallett for her recognition as a commended scholar. While Haley fell just short of the semi-finalist score she was in the top 45,000 PSAT scores in the entire United States. Congratulations to Ella Fakes and Mrs. Sharon Leinenbach on their selections as the student and staff of the week recipients. Students eligible for induction into the National Honor Society this year received paperwork at the end of last week. The list of activities and the required essay need to be turned into Mrs. Elrod by 3 PM on Wednesday, September 30th to be considered for induction. Please let Mrs. Elrod (Room 412) know if you have any questions. Picture make-ups will be held on October 8th. Students need to sign up for retakes either on line or outside of Mr. Elrod's room. I have included some pictures of the Student Council sponsored Homecoming game. Thank you to Mrs. Ferguson and the spirit committee for being flexible with our weather delay.
School Events:
The girl's golf team is currently competing at the IHSAA Regional golf tournament. They qualified at Buffalo Trace last weekend. Good luck girls. The Marching Wildcats travel to Avon for a competition tomorrow. With a home invitational next week. The boys tennis team is headed to Center Grove to face some great competition in preparation for their tournament run. Cross Country is hosting the Jasper Invite at the sports complex at 10 am. If you have never witnessed a Cross Country meet start it is exciting. Castle comes to the JHS pitch for a girls and boys soccer match. Boys begin at 10 with the girls starting at 2:30. It will be a fun filled day for all our students competing.
Community Events:
The new Boys and Girls club will be holding an open house in a few weeks. The Dubois County Museum has provided us with a document outlining their fall programming. Mr. Miller is working with an outreach program and is looking for volunteers to help pack meals for an orphanage on the Nile river. Crane Naval Base sent information about the Indiana University, Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering and their Tech Quest contest next Saturday.
CCD Completion:
As we near the end of our first 9 weeks of school I want to encourage parents and students to review their CCD grade. Students have assignments on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. These assignments are grade level specific and aligned with multiple state and local educational requirements. We created the CCD course to conserve class and instruction time and organize these requirements into cohesive lessons administered at the appropriate times. All of the assignments may be completed during CCD class time. All students must pass their CCD course each semester for all four years to qualify to participate during the graduation ceremony. The CCD course is a pass or fail course with no letter grade assigned. Parents please check PowerSchool to make sure you student is currently passing their CCD course.
Have a wonderful weekend and Go Cats!

BOOK BANTER
While continuing to celebrate a multitude of holidays in September, we now turn toward the most wonderful time of the year: HALLOWEEN!!
It really does take a village to keep the library going! Thank you to Mrs. Luebbehusen for providing fresh flowers from her garden during September…and to Mr. Gobert for his donation to the library…and to Ms. Dawn and Ms. Paige for making fantastic donations of children’s books as we increase available book selections to our littles.
Stop by the library to write the title of your book and its geographical location on a sticky note and put it on the map. Then submit your name on a slip of paper for the drawing.
October’s drawing will be to submit your name along with “your favorite place to read”.
We are down to 80 overdue books! Keep them coming in! Please return your book to the book-drop or the circulation desk, or come in to renew.
Over 100 new books were added to the library in September! Come in and find your next read!
Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!!

Wildcat Corner
Jasper High School is fortunate to have a school-based enterprise (SBE), our school store. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate standards in marketing, finance, hospitality, human resources, and management. SBEs provide realistic and practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction. The Wildcat Corner is a major learning component in the Business Program. The teacher and coordinator for this program is Mrs. Jessica Mehringer.
The success of the Wildcat Corner depends on the commitment of students in the Small Business and Business Administration Capstone classes as these students are responsible for working in the school store as part of their work based learning experience.
Wildcat Corner Store is OPEN for business. Our website is www.wildcatcornerstore.com
