From The Nest
Edition 50: August 7, 2024
On July 26, formal settlement documents were filed with the Northern District Court of California Friday to advance the settlement approval process to resolve class-action lawsuits involving the NCAA and the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Pac-12 Conference and Southeastern Conference (Autonomy 5 conferences).
The settlement addresses three primary issues: payment of back damages for claims relating to name, image and likeness (NIL), academic-related awards and other benefits; increased benefits from institutions to student-athletes going forward, including additional NIL opportunities for student-athletes directly with the institution; and eliminating scholarships limits in favor of roster limits (Click here for further details).
We will continue to work with our university leadership, the American Athletic Conference and our head coaches to put Temple Athletics and its student-athletes in the best position to move forward in this new college athletics environment.

TEMPLE HOSTS COUNCILMAN CURTIS JONES ROWING CAMP
This past week, coaches and student-athletes from both the Temple Men’s Crew and Women’s Rowing programs welcomed approximately 30 campers, ages 10-12, to Temple University and the East Park Canoe Boathouse for the Councilman Curtis Jones Rowing Camp. Throughout the week-long event, children were provided with a tour of the main campus and training on the proper technique to row a shell on the river. The five-day camp, which has been hosted by Temple since 2018, culminated on Friday, August 2 when the campers raced against boats manned by city council staffers from the office of Councilman Jones as well as Temple staffers and alums.
