We have planned a field trip to the Freeland SportsZone for our 7th grade students on Wednesday, April 8. The purpose of the field trip is to give our 7th grade students an up-close experience to Health and Wellness as well as some financial literacy from Junior Achievement on a day where our 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT in our building. The 7th grade students will be chaperoned by the 7th grade team of teachers. Buses will leave FMS at 9:00 am and return at 2:00 pm. Please have your student bring a water bottle, dress in active wear, and wear closed toed shoes.

Please complete the form regardless of whether or not your student can attend. We want to account for all of our 7th graders. If you have more than one child in 7th grade, please complete a form for EACH child. Please complete this form no later than Friday, March 20, 2026. We would like to get a solid headcount for lunches and buses.

We are excited to announce that the entire middle school will be able to attend a Loons game at Dow Diamond on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The cost of this trip will be $11 and that will include a ticket to the game, transportation, and a school provided sack lunch. Please note that students will not be able to bring the free lunch in to Dow Diamond so they will have to eat it on the way to the game. There will be concessions available at the ballpark for students who are interested in purchasing those as well or instead of taking a free school lunch. They will allow cash on the days of the School Day game which is a special exception for our students.

We need permission slips and the $11 admission in the main office by Friday, March 13, 2026 in order to plan for the event. If you have any questions or have financial concerns, please contact Mrs. Thunberg or Mrs. Glazier.

We would appreciate donations from any families who are willing to help a student who is having financial difficulties for this event. You can cover the $11 cost for a student in need in the main office at FMS and we will make sure that all of our students are able to attend this field trip.

We’re excited to announce our 8th Grade T-Shirt Fundraiser to support this year’s Send-Off Celebration! This is a great opportunity for students to show their Freeland pride while helping make this milestone event truly memorable.

For just $10, students will receive a high-quality shirt — the same great brand and comfort as our high school Student Council shirts. They’re stylish, comfortable, and perfect for celebrating the end of middle school. Parents and other family members are welcome to order, too!

All proceeds directly support the 8th Grade Send-Off and help us create a special experience for our students.

If you were unable to attend our Parent Night on February 12th, we encourage you to review the important information that was shared.

Alisha Meneely from the MI Child Protection Registry presented on internet safety, current social media trends, and app safety restrictions available to parents. With more students—especially at younger ages—receiving phones, these conversations are critical for families with children of all ages.

Social Media - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

We encourage all parents to review the materials and continue discussions at home about safe and responsible technology use.

Parents can now observe their students in Canvas after completing a few steps. Here is some information regarding this process.

A pairing code is needed for any parent/caregiver to create an Observer Account for their child. You can have your child generate a code for you utilizing the directions below. To log into Canvas please follow the directions outlined in the links below.

We would like you to SAVE THE DATE for our 2nd Semester SOAR Assembly which will be held in the evening on Monday, June 1, 2026. The 7th grade will be honored at 5:00 pm and the 8th grade at 6:30 pm with an Ice Cream Social to follow in the Cafeteria.

• Please follow Freeland Community School District on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) for information and fun posts about our students and staff throughout the year. If you are not a social media fan, the same information will be found on our website in the live feed.

• Use Skyward for keeping track of your student’s grades, attendance, etc.

It is the goal to return all phone calls and emails within 24 hours during the school week. Emails and phone calls received over the weekend will receive a response as soon as possible on Monday.
