Hello Centerview families!
What a fun week celebrating SLP homecoming across the district this past week, concluding with a Panther win on Friday night! Thanks for having the kiddos ready each day!
We kicked off $5 from 5 people PTO Fundraiser last week, and our students and families have started off with gusto and strong interest! We are certainly on our way in meeting the goal of $15,000 to support field trips, school community activities, and opportunities for increased student and family engagement. Be sure to mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 6 when we will have the annual family FUNdraiser FUN run. More information in today’s newsletter. Thank you for your efforts and keen interest in supporting our school community.
Below, in today’s CV newsletter, there also is some background on the school funding question every Minnesotan will see on their election ballot this fall. The question asks Minnesotans to vote on changes in how money in the Permanent School Fund is distributed. If approved, the change would provide additional funding to public school districts, including our schools. It would not increase taxes. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn more.
Conferences are right around the corner. Yes, Tuesday night October 13 and a full day on Wednesday, October 14. We’ll follow that up with another evening on Thursday, October 22. Information has been and will be shared in your child’s weekly Friday classroom communication. You will also find a conference link sign up below. We hope to have 100% participation.
Sign up for parent teacher conferences.
Remember next week is a short week for students. There is no school for students on Thursday, October 8 and Friday, October 9 as our staff engages in professional learning.
Enjoy the fall weather and reach out if you have any questions!
Take care,
Mike
Lockdown Drill - Wednesday, October 7
We will be conducting a lockdown drill on Wednesday, October 7. This drill is an important part of our school's safety procedures.
Teachers and staff will guide and supervise all students throughout the drill. Please take a moment to discuss with your child the importance of following instructions and remaining calm during safety drills. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we work together to keep our school community safe.
If you prefer your child not participate, please reach out to the main office to notify us.

Celebrating Dot Day
Mrs. Gustafson's class recently celebrated Dot Day. What is dot day you may ask? Dot Day is inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. In the story, Vashti thinks she cannot draw, so her teacher encourages her to simply make a mark and see where it takes her. Vashti starts with one small dot, but then discovers that she can create many wonderful things.
The story teaches us that we don’t have to be perfect to be successful. Sometimes we just need to be brave enough to try. When we believe in ourselves and keep going, we may discover talents and ideas we didn’t know we had.
For first graders, Dot Day is a reminder that everyone can create, everyone has important ideas, and everyone can make their own special mark. It also teaches us to encourage others and help them believe in themselves.
Statewide School Funding on the Ballot This Fall; No New Taxes
Minnesota voters will decide this fall whether to change how money from the state’s Permanent School Fund is distributed to public schools. If approved, the change would provide additional funding to public school districts, including Spring Lake Park Schools. It would not increase taxes.
The proposed amendment would change how the annual distribution from the fund is calculated. If the amendment passes, Spring Lake Park Schools is expected to receive about $33 more per student, or approximately $200,000. Leaving the question blank has the same effect as voting No. Learn more about the Permanent School Fund ballot question.
