Ott's Outlook
December 2024
We are not only entering the Christmas season here at the start of December, but we are also closing in on the end of the first semester of the school year. The next few weeks are an especially busy time with end of year programs, concerts, and special events on the calendar at all of our campuses.
The start of the new year will also mark the start of the 89th Texas legislative session. The Temple ISD Board of Trustees has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming session so that they can best advocate for our students, staff, families, and community on issues relating to public education. The board held a series of listening circles with various groups of stakeholders, including spiritual leaders, business leaders, parents, school staff and students to gather input on what each of those groups feel the board should prioritize. The board has also met with or will meet with our area representatives – Senator Pete Flores, Representative Hugh Shine, Representative Brad Buckley, and Representative Hillary Hickland. From those meetings, the board drafted a list of legislative priorities relating to school safety, school funding, special programs, accountability, and a study of unfunded mandates. Those priorities were approved at the November board meeting, and you can read them in full below.
As I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with the board and our elected officials in advocating for our district, I also look forward to the memorable experiences our staff and students will create in the final weeks of this semester.
I appreciate the support from each and every one of you and I wish each of you a Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
Sincerely,
Bobby Ott
