Smithfield Elementary
April 2026
Message from the Principal!
Welcome back from Spring Break!
April is the month when the weather turns, and the "lightbulb moments" in the classroom become more frequent, and we start to see just how much ours students have grown since September.
Our 3-5th grade students will be participating in the PSSA's this month. We wish them the Best!
Help us help them do their best by making sure they get enough rest!
Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or the front office if you ever have any questions or concerns (570) 421-2841.

The Reading Nook
To celebrate the joy of reading, the Keystone State Literacy Association (KSLA) is thrilled to announce that April is Families and Reading Month. Families all across Pennsylvania will be discovering the fun of reading—together. We would love for you to join in the excitement by reading with your child every day throughout the month.
We challenge you to enjoy at least 15 minutes of reading or fun reading-related activities each day in April. Need some inspiration? Check out our activity calendars, filled with creative ideas that can make reading a special part of your daily routine—not just in April, but all year long.
At the end of April, simply sign your child’s reading calendar and return it to the Smithfield Reading Department. As a token of appreciation, you and your child will receive a Certificate of Participation and a coin for a book from the Book Vending Machine to celebrate your amazing reading journey together!
