Leighton Update
August 28th, 2025
Dear Leighton Families,
Our students are doing a phenomenal job settling into school and classroom routines. We know that has much to do with your continued support from home. We thank you for your help with a smooth transition back into school norms. We know this can often times be difficult and we sincerely appreciate our relationship. Additionally, just in the few short weeks of school, it is easy to observe how much our teachers and staff pour from themselves into the success of our kids. We are so fortunate to have them and I want to thank them for providing such welcoming and supportive learning environments from the first day of school for our students. We all have the same goal, to see has much growth as possible from our children; socially, emotionally and academically. We all have that same mindset and are equal partners in its achievement!
We continue to successfully move through fall benchmarking with all of our students. We are currently administering a battery of literacy and math assessments to our students to help us know the best place to start instruction and supports. Also, please be reminded that Friday, 8/29 is day one of fall assessments. We are asking all students whose last name begins with A-L attend on Friday and stay home on Tuesday, 9/02. Monday, 9/01 is Labor Day and all staff and students are off! On Tuesday, 9/02, all students whose last names start with M-Z will attend and our A-L students will stay home. This will be the last time this year we will stagger attendance like this. Thank you for all the arrangements made to ensure this happens; these are important days!
Sincerely,
Spencer Warders

Update Final Forms: Parent Bill of RIghts
We recently were required to add a new form into our Final Forms titled "Parents Bill of Rights." Dr. Milcetich has previously highlighted much of this information in his opening communication to families.
Everyone will need to log back into Final Forms to access this form and add their signature that you have received this communication. If you could complete this as soon as possible, that would be greatly appreciated. All of your forms must appear GREEN to be COMPLETE. - Thank you!

Counselors' Corner
Hello Leighton! Part of our role as school counselors consists of connecting families with varying resources. You will note a link to a list of Community Resources should you wish to explore resources for your child outside of the school setting. During the school year, Leighton offers a variety of opportunities to assist families with financial needs through partnering with our PTO. By reaching out to us via completing this form, phone, email or in-person, we can assist your student with funds for upcoming Book Fairs or the Holiday Shop, holiday gifts, Thanksgiving “baskets,” winter clothing including jackets, pants and boots; purchase of the class T-shirt, purchase of a yearbook, school supplies and any other need brought to our attention. Please do not hesitate to contact us with the slightest concern. Feel free to simply let us know what you need, and we’ll connect with you to ensure this need is fulfilled!

Clinic Updates
- Please monitor your child for illness symptoms. If your child has a temperature greater than 100 they must stay home until they are fever free for 24 hrs without medication. For coughing, congestion and sore throat that are disruptive or not well contained, it is preferred they stay home until symptoms are decreased or your child has been evaluated by your physician.
- Students sent home from school with a fever also may not return to school until they are fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. with a fever, he/she may not return to school until Thursday. If your child does return the next day, our school nurse will be calling for you to come to pick him/her up. Thank you for your support and efforts in this area.
- Please consider sending in a spare change of clothes for your student to keep in their locker in the event of spills, toileting accidents or muddy clothes.
- If a prescription or over-the-counter medication is needed to support your child during the school day, it must be accompanied by a physician/nurse practitioner signed document. Please reach out if you need a copy of these forms.
- Please remember we are a peanut and tree nut free school in the classrooms!
- Please contact our school nurse, Erika Harper at 330-562-2209 ext 3285 or eharper@aurora-schools.org with any questions related to illness or the clinic.
Nutrition Expedition: Welcome to Japan
We are taking a Nutrition Expedition in our cafeteria during lunch on September 9th! Be on the lookout for ingredients and recipes commonly used in Japanese dishes. This expedition is highlighting different cuisines as we travel through Japan. Please see the flyer below or the online menu for more details! Students will place their lunch order with their teacher in the morning as normal.
You can track your child's lunch account by setting up your profile. You may also send in cash or a check written out to the Aurora City Schools.
Transportation Information From Mrs. Wingler
If any student needs to be picked up or dropped off other than their home location, they MUST fill out an alternate bus stop form before we can transport and return to us by email, fax or dropping off at the office. That form is located in the same area as listed below on the webpage and is also included below.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. My email is cwingler@aurora-schools.org.
Our bus drivers did a fantastic job of teaching bus riding safety to all our 3rd graders. Our students were respectful and responsible and followed expectations making for a successful training for all!
