A Joint Message from Wylie ISD & the Wylie Police Department
Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Wylie ISD and the Wylie Police Department take any and all threats, whether made in person, online, or otherwise, extremely seriously.
We want to be clear: threats—whether real or perceived—are not tolerated, and students who make them will receive immediate school consequences and will likely face legal consequences, including arrest. Many of the school threat incidents that families have been notified about, even when students claimed they were joking, have led to alternative school placements and arrests. These actions are taken not only to hold students accountable but also to ensure they receive the necessary help through the juvenile court system. We take these matters very seriously.
It’s important to understand that even jokes or offhand remarks will be treated with the same level of attention, because we cannot afford to take chances. Students must realize that threats are never a joke—actions have lasting consequences.
Threats disrupt the learning environment and create fear and anxiety among students, staff, and parents, which is unacceptable. We want our schools to be places where students and staff feel safe every day, and where parents can trust their children are secure. Maintaining this sense of safety is essential to fostering a positive, productive educational environment.
Given the tragic events that have impacted schools across the nation, we cannot and will not ignore or minimize any behavior that could jeopardize the safety of our campuses. Every threat is thoroughly investigated to ensure the protection of our students and staff.
Despite our ongoing efforts to communicate this message to students, some still make poor choices in their words and actions. We strongly urge parents and families to have conversations with their children about the gravity of making threats or engaging in threatening behavior.
Together, as a community, we can uphold a safe and supportive environment where students feel secure and can focus on learning and growing. Remember, if you hear or see something, please say something. Safety is a shared responsibility, and by working together, we can ensure our schools remain safe for everyone.

Start of a Legacy: Task Turns into Tradition at Burnett Junior High
Turning a tedious task into a new tradition, football families were invited to “Decals with Dads” at Burnett Junior High. Every year, football coaches and players undertake the important task of thoroughly cleaning all the football helmets and replacing the stickers. With 112 eighth graders and 94 seventh graders, this annual duty came to be quite overwhelming.
“It was taking a lot of time to get this done during practice,” BJHS football coach Curtis Holtz said. “We had a new coach come in who brought this idea to us.”
