Food insecurity is an ongoing challenge for many who live in Westchester. At Eastview Middle School we began to tackle this challenge for our students and their families by providing bags of food to be picked up weekly, however, we knew we wanted to offer more. For the past year we have been working to transition from bags of food delivered to us to the creation of a food pantry where our families are able to enter our school and select the food items that they need.

On Wednesday January 22, 2025, our Eastview Tiger Market food pantry opened for families and will be open on Monday & Wednesday during specific hours. Tiger Market offers canned goods, dry goods as well as fresh and frozen items in partnership with Feeding Westchester.

This could not have happened without the collaboration of several WPCSD employees who helped transform the storage space, in both big and small ways, into our EV Tiger Market: Kara McCormick-Lyons, Christian Reyes, Xavier Hernandez-Delgado, Jesimae Ossorio, Caridad Lira and Tina Kelly.

I also want to acknowledge our community service club students who will assist in stocking shelves, our parent volunteers and our PTA for signing up to supervise the pantry when it is open.

Thank you for being #EPIC.
