Information for Parents
8th Grade Promotion
- Save the Date: The Sherwood Middle School Promotion activities will take place on Friday, June 17th from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
- Name on Promotion Certificates: Your student’s promotion certificate will contain your student’s legal name from his or her school record. If there is a preferred name that you would prefer on the certificate, please click here to provide the preferred name. All name changes on the promotion certificates must come from the parent/guardian to ensure approval.
- 8th Grade Promotion Celebration: SMS 8th graders are invited to attend the Promotion Dance and Celebration following the promotion ceremony on June 17th. It will be helpd in the SMS Commons from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. There will be pizza, a DJ and treats to enjoy. If you can help with your time, please sign up here. PSO Election: The SMS PSO is having their election starting today, Friday, June 3rd running through Friday, June 10th. If you would like to vote, please click here to be taken to the ballot.
SMS Band & Dance Team will be marching once again the Portland Jr. Rose Festival Parade on Wednesday, June 8th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The parade will be broadcast live on Fox 12 Plus (KPDX).
Yearbook Signing Party: There will be a Yearbook Signing Party on Friday, June 10th during the extended lunch times. Two Kona Ice trucks will also be there to sell shaved ice! Cost will range from $3.00 to $5.00.
2022-23 and 22023-24 District Calendars: As you may know, in February 2022 the SSD Board of Directors approved the District calendars for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. The approved calendars can be found on the District website here.
One important change for both of these approved calendars is that the start of the school year will now include student attendance days beginning prior to Labor Day weekend. This coming fall, for instance, please note that school will begin September 1, prior to Labor Day weekend. The reason for this change is to meet state instructional hour requirements while maintaining a full week during Thanksgiving Break and two full weeks during Winter Break, which feedback has indicated continues to be important to the community of Sherwood.

Join our Colorguard this Fall! Hello, my name is Brant Stai, and I am the marching band director at Sherwood High School. We are looking for students who want to learn movement and dance to join our Colorguard this coming fall. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to learn and join our Marching Band & Colorguard family!
