A Message From Mrs. Carmody
Dear Fremont Families,
In the remaining weeks of school, we are emphasizing respecting all adults in the school and following directions the first time they are given. In a busy K-2 classroom, safety and learning depend on students responding to instructions the first time they are given and respecting the adults leading them. We are teaching the students that "listening" isn't just hearing a sound, it’s a commitment to action. When students transition quickly to the carpet or clean up their supplies upon the first request, it maximizes our time for the activities they love. Respecting adults and other children in the school is essential. Please review the importance of kindness to all.
By maintaining firm expectations at home, you provide your child with the essential tools to be a leader in the classroom. When children understand that kindness and respect are non-negotiable, it creates a positive environment for everyone. A few ideas are below.
The "Eye Contact" Check: Before giving a direction, ensure you have your child’s eyes. A simple "I need your eyes" ensures they are focused and ready to process the instruction.
The "Check for Understanding": After giving a task, ask them to repeat it back. "What are the two things you need to do?" This confirms the message was received before they start moving.
Respectful Language: When your child uses disrespectful language it needs to be addressed immediately and you can model how to rephrase whatever it is that they are trying to communicate.
Thank you for your partnership in helping to create kindness for our school!
Warmly,
Beth Carmody
Principal
Mrs. Gallup’s first graders transformed their classroom into a cozy Poetry Cafe last week, performing original verses for an audience of proud parents. From "poet" attire to expressive readings, the event was a wonderful showcase of the students’ work. Thank you to all the families who joined us for an afternoon of finger-snaps and creative inspiration!
