We welcome volunteers at SMS. If you would like to volunteer please complete the Volunteer Interest Form . The SSD volunteer background check can be accessed at Volunteer Background Check. Volunteers are needed before school, after school, and during lunch. Volunteers are also needed to help students safely cross Highway 30 at Maple Street. Additionally, we need volunteers on Friday afternoons to help organize rewards for our Legacy program.

Students have all had multiple opportunities to log into their online platforms in their classes. If they are still having trouble logging into either StudentVue or Canvas, the information is listed below:

Scappoose School District uses an online grading system that allows you and your families to stay up to date on academic progress and access communication between home and school. The link to the ParentVue/StudentVue website can be found on the District website, and there is also an app that can be downloaded on a variety of devices. For each class, you will be able to access your student’s overall grade in each class, see assignments marked missing, and see scored assignments posted in Synergy.

If your student is unable to log in to StudentVue, please have them go to the office during school hours to either get their password reset or a code to activate their account.

If your student is absent, they will be able to access missing work on their class Canvas pages. If you are unable to find assignments for days missed, please reach out directly to their teacher for guidance. Please be sure that your student is logging in to the Scappoose Canvas: scappoose.instructure.com
- If you or your student can’t remember or need a brand new password, click the “Forgot Password” link to reset it.
Reminder - If your student needs to sign into Canvas AND/OR their student Google account for something like Google Docs, they must use their student email account, not a personal account. That email account ends with @stu.scappoosek12.org

Library News from Mrs. Nudo is being delivered in a slightly different way this year. You can now access her newsletter by clicking on the Scappoose Library logo or you can click directly from the district newsletter - whatever is easiest for you! Thank you for supporting our school libraries and for reading all the amazing things we are doing district-wide!

If your student was unable to get their picture taken during registration, School Picture Make-up Day will be on September 29th.

As you travel the region/world, keep your eyes open for Sasquatch signs, clothing, memorabilia, or actual Sasquatches. If you see anything Sasquatch-related, please take a selfie with it and send it to the school or tag our school on Instagram: @scappoosemidschool.

Remember to call (971.200.8004) or email the Assistant Secretary at jmorris@scappoose.k12.or.us by 10:00 AM when your student is absent, stating the reason. If we do not receive notification from a parent/guardian, you will receive an autocall from the school. Absences are excused for the following reasons:

Personal or family illness
Doctor or dental appointments
Pre-arranged absences (notify the school a week or more in advance)
School-sponsored sports and other activities

Between 8:25 and 3:20 phones, headphones, and other electronic devices need to be stored in student lockers. If you need to contact your student, please call or email the main office. Students who carry or use their devices in violation of this policy will have their devices sent to the main office. On the first offense, the student may pick it up at the end of the day. If there is a second offense in the same grading period, we will ask their parent/guardian to pick up the device from school.

Study hall is available every day after school in the SMS Library from 3:20-4:00. We have a tutor in the library available to support students on most days

ALEKS is an online math support program to help students focus on targeted skills that they are ready to learn based on an initial knowledge check. They can select skills that we are working on in math class as well as other skills they may have missed or have yet to master. Their skills are based on what they already know and focused on the content for the year of math to come. These are the steps to log into ALEKS. First, Log into Canvas. Then, click on McGraw Hill K-12 SSO It should be on the left-hand side in the drop-down menu. If it isn’t there, they may need to open the three lines at the top to see it. Once there, they will be able to see their online textbook, ALEKS, as well as potentially their Social Studies online textbook. They want to select ALEKS (the label may say the course they are in but the book says ALEKS).
