6-8th grade Vocabulary Bowl Competition 6-8th grade Vocabulary Bowl Competition

Our students have been hard at work participating in a nationwide vocabulary competition! Over the past few weeks, they’ve been trading the #1 spot in Kansas back and forth with Cheney Middle School, and the competition is coming down to the wire!

To keep the motivation high, we’ve added a little extra incentive:

  • If our school finishes #1 in Kansas and places in the top 50 schools nationwide, we’ll celebrate with a schoolwide pizza party. To add some icing on the cake, our assistant principal, Mr. Alan, has agreed to spend a night on the roof of the school.

Our students have shown incredible effort and teamwork, and we’re so proud of their dedication. Encourage your child to keep practicing those vocabulary words every chance they get, every point counts as we push for the finish line!

It’s time for one of our favorite JWMS traditions: Thanksgiving Pie with our School Family!

We are excited to celebrate Thanksgiving with our School Families again this year. To help make this special event happen, we are asking for donations of store-bought pies, along with plates and forks, for our celebration on Friday, November 21.
Please send all donated items to school by 8:00 am so we have time to prepare.

The sign-up slots below are organized by School Family. If you know which family your student belongs to, you’re welcome to sign up for that group, but feel free to sign up for any family! Thank you for helping make this tradition meaningful and enjoyable for our students!

Recently in CharacterStrong, our students have been diving into meaningful skills that support both their personal growth and their relationships with others.

Our 5th graders have been focusing on gratitude, learning how to recognize the good around them and express appreciation in positive, thoughtful ways.

Our 6th and 8th graders have been exploring personal values. They’re learning to identify what matters most to them and how those values influence their choices and behavior.

Our 7th graders are learning about emotions and emotional vocabulary. As part of this unit, they’re also gaining a basic understanding of the neuroscience behind emotions and emotion regulation, along with a grounding strategy they can use to help manage strong feelings.

I encourage you to help your student make connections to these lessons by asking them about what they’re learning and inviting them to share examples from their day.
