The 2nd Winter Sports Season starts right after Winter Break. Please see Grove's Interscholastic Sports Page for the latest information regarding sports and clubs. This next sports season is 7th and 8th grade girl's volleyball, with tryouts starting Thursday, 1/16, 3:00-4:30, and 6th grade girls basketball with tryouts starting Tuesday, 1/21 3:00-4:30.

Any student wanting to try out needs an up-to-date sports physical on file with the school nurse.

Locker Clean Out Before Winter Break Locker Clean Out Before Winter Break

Grove is having updates done over winter break. We are having 250 of our lockers painted green (from the old blue color). We are super excited to have this work done in our main hallway and down the Science Hallway, with the rest of the lockers to be completed over the summer break.

This does mean 250 students will have to clean our their lockers before leaving for winter break. We will be giving locker cleanout time on Wednesday during WIN 7:45-8:20, and again on Friday at the end of the day 1:30-1:50. We will be sure to give locker time to these students on Tuesday, January 7th at 7:45 when we return to school so they can set up their lockers again.

The following SEL WIN classes need empty lockers by the end of the day Friday.

6th SEL classes

  • Mr. Zimmermann

  • Ms. Luxmore

  • Mr. Kolbuk

  • Ms. Goranson

7th SEL classes

  • Ms. Kanne

  • Mr. D’Anza

8th SEL classes

  • Mr. Verschoore

  • Mr. Pattie

  • Ms. Riggs

  • Ms. Schumacher

If there are locker shelves/locker mirrors that they can’t fit in their bags to take home, they can ask their SEL WIN teacher to hold that in their classroom over break.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Reminder of Emergency Day Procedures Reminder of Emergency Day Procedures

As we are entering winter months, I would like to remind you all that if schools have a "Snow Day" or "Cold Day", District 59 would typically move to a remote learning day. That means that students will log into their Google Classroom. It is a shortened day of learning from 8am-1:30pm. Each class starts with a video call for the lesson. Teachers post on their google classroom the link to the video call. After the video call, there is some independent work for that class. Teachers do take attendance for every class and students are expected to attend as this does count towards an attendance day.

If your child forgot their chromebook at school, they can log into their Google account from any device in order to participate in learning for the day.

Whenever there is an Emergency Day announced, the district will email, I will email, and I will post on Facebook and Twitter.

Visit from Cook County Commissioner Mr. Morrison Visit from Cook County Commissioner Mr. Morrison

This Tuesday Cook County Commissioner, Mr. Morrison, came and visited some District 59 schools. He observed our orchestra practicing for their concert, an AVID class, and met with our student council. It was a great visit where we learned from him about his role, and he learned how he could best support Grove and education.

Reminder: Call in Absences Reminder: Call in Absences

As we are in peak cold and flu season, please remember to call the school attendance line to call your child out sick. Please save this number as a contact in your phone so it is easier for you. Thank you!
