Dear Parents,

Here are a couple of things you need to know. The first two days of school have been amazing so far. I hear laughter, see smiles, and students engaged with each other. Classroom routines are being established and learning is starting to gear up. The best part is the high fives I’m getting daily!

For my TK Parents: Please after drop off, do not walk to the TK playground on the outside of the school and try to take pictures or get your child’s attention. This is causing distress for our TK students after they just got settled on the playground. I know it is hard, but please just walk away and not engage with your child. This will help make the transition easier.

All Parents: Smartwatches and cellphones for students are not allowed on campus. If a student needs to have their device at school it must be turned off and in their backpacks during the school day. We have clocks in every classroom, and your child can use them to know what time it is.

Hats: Hats can be worn outside of the classroom, but in the classroom hats are not allowed.

Please go over these policies with your student. I appreciate your support.

There is something special about the energy of a new school year, and it has been wonderful seeing smiling students, reconnecting families, and new faces joining our Deer Canyon community. I’m honored to serve as your PSO President again this year and excited to work alongside our dedicated PSO Board, event chairs, staff, and families to help create a fun, memorable, and connected year for everyone.

We started the year with our Popsicle Party and Club Fair, followed by coffee in the MPR after drop-off. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make these gatherings such a welcoming way to begin the year!

A special thank-you goes to our wonderful 5th grade DC Leaders for giving tours and helping our newest families feel at home. We are also grateful to our Club Coordinator, Sahana Chiwane, and all the club coaches for making the Club Fair a success, and to our VP of Programs, Annie Baig, for planning our back-to-school activities, hosting a wonderful luncheon for our teachers and staff, and coordinating the generous drink and dessert donations from our families (thank you DC families!).

Thank you to everyone who has helped for lending a hand throughout the festivities. It truly takes a community, and your support helped make our first week extra special.

Our PSO website is updated, thank you to James Loren, our tech chair. It is truly an easy one-stop shop for information, volunteer opportunities, events, and more. Check it out HERE.

As a reminder, every Deer Canyon family is automatically a member of the PSO. There is no membership form or fee required. Whether you volunteer at an event, attend a meeting, support a fundraiser, share an idea, or simply stay connected, you are an important part of what makes our community so special.
