What Has Been Happening In Our 8th Grade STEELS Classrooms?
September Golden Ticket Prize Winners
Congratulations to our September Golden Ticket prize winners! Last Friday, we ran the September Golden Ticket Raffle from our PBIS Online Reward System. Golden Tickets are earned when students go above and beyond our expectations of Respect, Ownership, Courage, Kindness and Safety. Staff give them to students when they are really impressed. The following 10 students were given the choice of a Fall craft activity or a sweet treat.
Congratulations to: Ava Townsend, Carter Wesley, Tafari Lawrence, Dayon Deveaux, Sophia Kerns, Zane Kurzeja, Sara Gainor, Aubrey Ford, Declan Connah, and Eden Lewis.
Keep up the great work! We are so proud of you!
Students of the Month for September
Congratulations, Nico Diaz, Saige Nicholas, and Morgan Soden!
Congratulations, Mrs. Hamilton. Employee of the Month for September
We want to congratulate our Employee of the Month for September, Mrs. Devyn Hamilton. She acts as a mentor, supporter, and is always willing to help others. Additionally, she is a wonderful counselor and advocate for students. Scott is better because she is here, and we are grateful to work with her.
We also want to congratulate our runners up: Mr. Bartholomew, Ms. Hydutsky, and Mr. Gibson. All three staff members were given a gift card to treat themselves at Dunkin Donuts. We have an amazing team here at Scott!
Grade Level Meetings- Review, Reflect, and Reset
Mrs. Lamothe held team meetings on Wednesday last week with each grade level to reflect on the first month of school, celebrate successes, and review expectations for moving forward.
For the most part, students have done a good job following the cell phone expectation of "off and away the entire day." Teachers have been pleased with classwork and homework completion, and students are earning ROCKStar points to spend weekly at our school store.
As we look to improve, topics discussed were: taking the most direct route to the next class (not the long way), keeping hands to ourselves, using appropriate language, using bathrooms correctly, eating in the cafeteria only, and talking not yelling.
Our PBIS focus for October will be hallway behavior. Students are expected to be safe in our hallways by walking and keeling their hands to themselves, go directly to their next class and be on time.
Thank you for taking the time to speak with your student this week about following school expectations.
Custodian Appreciation Day
We celebrated our custodians: Mr. Burrell, Mr. Harper, Mr. Monroe, Mr. Brown, Mr. Dunn and Mr. Grove on Friday. They work so hard to keep Scott clean and beautiful for our students and staff. We treated them to lunch and snacks as a small token of our appreciation for how hard they work each day.
Me We City Started Our Friday With Positivity
Pastor Robertson and other adults from the Me We City program greeted our Scott students and staff with encouragement and love on Friday morning. It was a wonderful way to start our day. We love the mornings when Me We City join us!

Grandfamily Connections
Mental health affects everyone. While one in five U.S. adults experiences a mental health condition annually, the impact extends to the friends, family, coworkers, and others who support them. Mental health is something we all experience, manage, and need support with. No one should have to face these challenges alone.
Recognizing the need to raise awareness and address mental health challenges, Congress officially established the first full week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in 1990, thanks to NAMI’s advocacy. Since then, communities across the country have come together annually to raise awareness, fight stigma, and support mental health.
Join us from October 5–11 as we celebrate community with this year’s theme, “Building Community: Supporting Mental Well-being Together,” underscoring the power of meaningful connections, grassroots advocacy, and local action to strengthen mental health support nationwide.
