After 36 years of dedicated service to CPS and Keller, Mr. Scott will be retiring from his role as our beloved school security guard. His last day is November 7th.

Mr. Scott has been a constant, reassuring presence on our campus—greeting students and families each morning with a smile, ensuring our halls and grounds remain safe, and always going the extra mile to support our school community. His kindness, dependability, and care for every child have left a lasting mark on Keller.

As we wish him well in this next chapter of life, we also want to express our deep gratitude for his years of commitment and service. Mr. Scott's steady presence and warm spirit will be greatly missed, but his legacy of safety and care will continue to be felt by all who pass through our doors.

Please join us in celebrating Mr. Scott and his remarkable service to our school family. We invite you to share your well wishes and fond memories as we send him off into a well-earned retirement on November 6th and 7th.

Last year, Keller ended with a 97% (the highest in the district) attendance rate, up 1.5% from last year! We are progressing greatly! The attendance goal for this year is 98%!

When a child approaches being chronically absent more than one day per month, they will be placed on an Attendance Plan. The Attendance Plan is to help return your child to school in a manner that is instructionally and socially safe.

The Attendance Plan includes the following:

• Analyze missed days for patterns.
• Partner with the child's family to assist with improving attendance.
• Analyze the accessibility of services needed to help families or improve student attendance.

When your child is absent, please call the main office or enter it on Aspen. Emails do not count toward excused absences. When you call, please let me know your child's name, grade level, reason for absence, and date of return. Per CPS Policy, only the following reasons will qualify for an excused absence: Illness, death of an immediate family member, military-active duty, religious holiday, and family emergency.

Each month, our school will highlight a different culture and heritage to celebrate the diversity and richness of our community. Families are invited to participate by decorating our Culture & Heritage Bulletin Board and adding other decorations around the building to share traditions, symbols, and stories that represent their culture. We have room to accommodate more than one culture each month, so families are welcome to celebrate together or alongside one another.

This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your heritage, teach our students about global traditions, and help us create a welcoming environment that honors all backgrounds and cultures.

Report Card Pick-up is scheduled for 11 am - 6 pm on Monday, October 27, 2025. Parent scheduling options will be sent on Tuesday, October 14th. A Cantonese Interpreter will be available from 12 pm to 3 pm. Teachers will soon send scheduling options. Please email your child's teacher(s) with any questions.

• Please be cautious when dropping off and picking up children.
• Please park legally.
• Do not park or wait in cross walks.
• Cars should not speed coming east on 108th street and turning onto Sacramento Ave., as it becomes an un-viewable, therefore becomes a hazardous situation for the many parents and children picking up and dropping off.
• Do not block the intersections. This creates hazardous conditions.
• Students should always exit cars on the curbside.
• Speed around the perimeter of the building, when children are present, should be kept to a maximum of 20 m.p.h.
• When dropping off students, cars should be facing the direction of traffic.

• Levels 3 thru 5- Sacramento Ave.
• Levels 6 thru 8- Whipple Ave.
• NEVER EVER walk in between moving vehicles!

Fall has finally arrived, and we have some spooky updates below.

Halloween Party

Please join us for our upcoming Keller Halloween Party on Friday, October 17th from 5:30-8:30 pm at Keller! DJ, dancing, pizza, trunk-or-treat, crafts, games and costumes! This is not a drop off event and all kids must be accompanied by an adult, hopefully in costume. Trunk-or-treat participants don't need to bring their own candy, we are collecting candy donations at the link below. All the trunk-or-treat volunteers need to do is decorate your trunks and pass out candy.

Haunted hallway

L7 is looking to borrow a few large pop-up tents or canopies to use for the haunted hallway on 10/17. If you have one at your home that they could borrow for the evening they would be very appreciative! They are also looking for donations of Halloween/spooky decor. Anything you are willing to part with that might help them make the hallway extra creepy. If you have any of the above, please contact erin.mcduffie@gmail.com to coordinate. L7 uses the proceeds from the haunted hallway to raise money for their Washington DC class trip.
