Liturgical Living at Home

June 2026

Liturgical Living atHomeJune 2026

The Parish Religious Education Office wanted to share a monthly selection of feast days and celebrations within the church that you can celebrate at home with your family. Challenge: try one new thing! It's a fun way to make the liturgical year come alive for your family. Once you start, your kids will ask all sorts of questions--"What feast day is today?" "What do you know about this saint?" "How can we make the celebration of ___ extra fun?"

We hope each month you will journey with us along the special feast days we highlight with a few ideas of how to make them extra special and memorable for your family. If you ever have ideas you'd like to share, send them to kmccarthy@sthilarychurch.org so they can be added to a future newsletter. If you try one of our ideas, or one of your own and take a picture, send it in so we can select a few to share in the next month's newsletter! (See where it will go down below)

June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Catholic Church dedicates the entire month of June to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This is a devotion I know of, but haven't ever dug into, but this year is extra special because we have the Bishops of the United States consecrating the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in honor of the monumental 250th anniversary of our country.

Another thing I learned is that the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart is a movable feast celebrated on the Friday following the second Sunday after Pentecost so it's not always on June 12.

The Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary

  1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.
  2. I will establish peace in their homes.
  3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
  4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.
  5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.
  6. Sinners will find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
  7. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.
  8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
  9. I will bless every place in which an image of my Heart is exposed and honored.
  10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
  11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart.
  12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

Feast Days of the month of June

  • June 1: St. Justin Martyr
  • June 5: St. Boniface
  • June 7: Corpus Christi: The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
  • June 11: St. Barnabas
  • June 12: The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus: On June 11 this year the United States Catholic Bishops are consecrating the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, check out more information here.
  • June 13: The Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary
  • June 13: St. Anthony of Padua: if you've ever lost something, you might be glad to know that St. Anthony is the patron of lost items. Earlier this year I was at confession with our PSR students and realized I had lost my keys. I talked to a few of the kids to pray for St. Anthony's intercession with me. A few minutes later, Mrs. Tuck came strolling into church with my keys in hand!
  • June 24: The Nativity of St. John the Baptist: A blessing of a bonfire on the eve of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist (June 23) is an old tradition
  • June 29: Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles

Summer in Coming and some saints whose intercession may come in handy...

I found this on instagram @worthyofagape and thought I would share it because it's perfect as we approach summertime!

  • St. Mark the Evangelist is the official patron saint of mosquito bites!
  • St. Rita is the patron saint of impossible causes and may be an extra intercessor if those mosquitos are extra nasty!
  • St. Bartholomew is the patron saint of skin conditions and great to ask for intercession if you're especially prone to sunburns.
  • St. Lawrence could also be called on as he was burned alive and would probably know the feeling if you have a really lobser-level sunburn.
  • St. John Bosco is the patron saint of kids and youth, so if your kids are bored, ask for his intercession to inspire them. But seriously, hasn't anyone ever told you being bored builds character!
  • St. Clare of Assisi is the patron saint of laundry, so this summer when the clothes are piling up and you need a little motivation, just ask St. Clare to pray you through it!
  • St. Teresa of Avila is the patron saint of headaches, so call on her when the heat hits or the squabbles are abundant and you need a break.
  • St. Adjutor is the patron saint of swimmers and boaters, so before you hit the pool, the ocean or the lake as for a prayer from him. He has numerous miracles associated with water and water rescue.

Have you tried a new liturgical tradition in your family?

Snap a photo and send it our way so we can show others how much fun you're having! There's so much to celebrate and enjoy this month, as every month! We hope you have a great summer and can find ways to incorporate our faith into every day. Send in a photo to kmccarthy@sthilarychurch.org to be featured here in future newsletters.
