RILEY RECAP - VOLUME 3 ISSUE 18
APRIL 12, 2024
From the Desk of Principal Henderson
Dear Riley Parents, Guardians, and Scholars:
Happy Friday! Spring Break is behind us and we are now in the final stretch of the 2023-2024 school year. This is a very busy time of the year as we are ensuring that our seniors have put the final touches on their high school years and then the rest of our scholars as they work on ensuring they have their needed credits at years end. Lots of events are going to be occuring over the next month and AP testing will also be starting soon. While this is the busiest time of the year, it is also some of the most fun and the most rewarding. It is important for scholars, staff and families to check their emails and our social medias to stay up to date and ensure that they are not missing anything important.
Now that we have returned from Spring Break, shorts ARE allowed to be worn per the dress code. Please make sure that even as the weather changes, that we are doing our best to adhere to the expectations shared in our dress code. We know its been a long 6 months since the Fall and our students are ready for the nice weather, but we will keep reminding our students and holding them accountable to our expectations.
Finally, our Spring sports seasons are in full swing. Baseball, Softball, Girls Tennis, Boys Golf, Track and Field, Unified Track and our brand new Boys Volleyball are all competing. Cancelations and postponements are normal this time of the year due to the weather, so please keep up to date with our information from our Athletic Department and social media. As always, if you get an opportunity, come out and support our amazing students who compete in these sports.
WE WILL RAISE THE BAR AT RILEY!
I am looking forward to working with you and your student as we work toward an academically successful school year. I can promise you the best of myself for your students each and every day. Please do not hesitate to contact me at shenderson2@sbcsc.k12.in.us if you have any questions or concerns during the year.
Our Goals:
1) Get students reading on grade level
2) A 95% attendance rate
3) A 90% graduation rate
We greatly appreciate the value that each and every one of our scholars and families brings to Riley. WE ARE THE PRIDE OF THE SOUTHSIDE! WE ARE #RILEYSTRONG!
Sincerely,
Shawn Henderson

ROBOTICS COMPETE AT STATE FINALS
Team 3865 | The Riley WildBots competed in the FIRST in Indiana State Championship from April 5-7. The team members had a great time and had a very strong defensive robot in this season’s game, Crescendo. After winning the Mishawaka District Event and being Finalists in the Plainfield District Event, we finished 25th overall in the state rankings. We look forward to taking on next season’s new game and challenges. Thank you to all of our sponsors, supporters, and mentors for helping to make this season a success. Be on the lookout for Flocks of Flamingos invading the Southside in the coming weeks as we begin our fundraising efforts for the 2025 season.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL HISTORY MADE
This week, Boys Volleyball won their 1st home match over St. Joe. It was so cool watching these 2 first year programs compete.
