Calling All Students for WIN Wednesday!

Students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support every Wednesday afternoon from 2:40pm – 4:15pm in the flex room located in the learning commons. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. In addition students can also utilize the WIN program to make up tests they may have missed. Students can get this approved through their teacher ahead of time and the test will be ready for them to take during WIN. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:40pm so they can benefit from the full support. We will keep a log of students and their engagement (arrival/departure time and their focus/work while they are there). For students needing transportation home, activity buses will be available departing at 4:45pm.

New: NCFL Grand National Speech and Debate Tournament

Last weekend, members of the Eastview Speech Team competed at the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Speech and Debate Tournament, held in Chicago Illinois. Despite its name, the NCFL Grand National Tournament draws top competition from both public and private schools throughout the country, and is one of two postseason national tournaments held in speech and debate. This year, 1,740 entries hailing from 28 different states competed at the tournament; though Eastview's entry was small, it was mighty!

All four attending students advanced to elimination rounds, and due to their cumulative work, Eastview received the 2025 Founders Award of Excellence in Speech, given to the top five speech programs in attendance at the tournament. Two entries (comprised of three students) advanced to the final round of competition, and one student was crowed National Champion in their event at the tournament. Congratulations to the following students for their exceptional performances, and to their coaches - Alli Hering, Todd Hering, and Brady Beckman.

Nick Zylstra: NCFL NATIONAL CHAMPION, Extemporaneous Speaking (out of 190 entries).

Maxwell Espeña & Nina Galindez: 3rd Place, Duo Interpretation (out of 162 entries).

Sahiti Atluri: Octafinalist (top 48), Dramatic Performance (out of 195 entries)

A major thank you to Brady for his supervision and judging (in addition to coaching) this weekend in Chicago. Next up, EVHS Speech and Debate will be heading to Des Moines for the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament in mid-June.
