If your child wasn't here on picture day, they can have their photo taken on Oct. 29 as well.

Birth Certificates/Immunizations

New registered students should provide copy of proof of identity (birth certificate, visa, I-94, or other government-issued ID, per North Dakota Century Code 12-60-26) and a paper copy of a current immunization record. Documents can be brought to South Elementary, and we will make a copy for our records.

Bike & Scooter Safety

To maintain a safe and predictable arrival and dismissal environment, all bicycles and wheeled riding devices—including e-bikes, electric scooters, traditional bicycles, scooters, and skateboards—must be walked, pushed, or carried while on school property. This expectation applies to learners and adults.

Devices brought to school must be secured in the school’s designated location and may not be accessed during the school day. Wheeled devices are not allowed on school buses, and the District is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage.

Thank you for helping us keep our learners, families, and staff safe.

Absences

Be sure to contact the school office if your child is going to be late or absent from school, 701-356-2100 or email SOUTH@west-fargo.k12.nd.us. If you need to pick up your child, early contact the office or message the teacher early in the day so we have a plan in case it is during lunch/recess.

Celebrations at School

HEALTHY SCHOOL NUTRITION ENVIRONMENT

Parents, as part of our district policy, we are asking that sweet and sugary snacks not be sent to school for snacks or birthday treats. We are asked to be models for our students, and we need to comply with federal regulations.

Families received an email from the district office regarding birthday celebrations. Please be mindful of this during the school year, to ensure that all learners can participate safely and inclusively, families and school partners are encouraged to consider non-food celebrations whenever possible. Small non-food items or special classroom activities are a wonderful way to celebrate while avoiding concerns related to food allergies, dietary restrictions, and federal nutrition requirements.

So, what can you send for birthday snacks instead?

Fruits Grains

Apples, Bananas, Grapes, Melon cubes, Cherries, Clementines, Blueberries

Whole grain crackers, Corn Chips, Popcorn, Cereal Bars, Pretzels

Dried Fruits

Kiwis – sliced apples

apricots

Raisins

Vegetables

Baby carrots

Cucumber slices/sticks

Lunch Visitors

Every fall we like to give our students and lunchroom staff the opportunity to get in a good routine before we allow visitors in the cafeteria. Monday, October 5 will be the first day for visitors. No fast food or pop in the lunchroom for students or adults.

If you would like to join your student for lunch, contact the office at 701-356-2100 before 9:00am to reserve your spot, tell us your lunch choice, we will let you know what time to arrive for lunch. If you decide to bring in your own cold lunch, please do not bring fast food or pop since we don't allow students to have it in the lunchroom. It is $4.25/person, we can only accept cash, or a check made out to South. All visitors will have to sign in to the Raptor visitor management system to receive and wear a visitors' badge while you are at South. Parents are only allowed to attend lunch, not recess. You cannot take pictures of videos in the lunchroom or hallways.

Art Wall

Our student art gallery is located outside of the library. Our goal is to display work from every South student sometime throughout the school year.

Inspiration for this art gallery originated in honor of Alexa Kersting, daughter of Loren and Monica Kersting, who passed away in July of 2004 while waiting for a lung transplant.

During Alexa’s six years as a student here, she created many works of art and poetry, as all our students have done. The frames for the gallery were purchased by the Kersting family to commemorate Alexa’s love of the arts.

Bus Loop Drop Off Zone

Parents/guardians we ask that you do not use the bus loop on 6th Ave, for parent drop off. This poses problems for our busses as well as some safety concerns for students. You need to drop off in the parent loop on 1st St on the east side of the building. If students are coming for breakfast or other morning activities, they still need to be dropped off in the parent drop-off loop. Students can walk to door #2 on 6th Ave from the parent drop off loop. We want all of our students to stay safe.

Century Code Cell Phone Law

State law now prohibits the use of personal electronic devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, etc., during the school day.

Cell phones, smartwatches, and other personal devices that can send and receive messages are OUT-OF-SITE and OUT-OF-USE from the time the learner enters the building until 2:40pm.

Devices are to be kept in lockers, in their backpacks. Please be aware that the school is not responsible for lost items!

1st Offense: Learner will pick up in the office.

2nd Offense: Parent/Guardian will pick up in the office.

3rd Offense: Admin and Parent/Guardian will come up with a plan.

ACFG-AP: Personal Electronic Devices Prohibition During the School Day - West Fargo 6 School District

Your child's teacher will be teaching throughout the day and may not see e-mails or SeeSaw messages. Please call the office if there is an important message for your child.

Please try to call prior to 12:30pm to ensure we are able to get the message to your child.

Title I Parent & Family Engagement

PARENTS RIGHT TO KNOW

Through federal education law, parents have the right to request information on the professional qualification of the teachers and paraprofessionals at our schools.

If you are interested in learning this information, please contact the school administration office at (701) 356-2100.

Upon this request, you will receive a detailed explanation of the licensing, education and experience of each of our teachers. You will also receive information regarding the names and qualifications of the paraprofessionals at our schools.

South Elementary is recognized as a schoolwide Title I school. Every year, the administration and staff review the school’s data to determine a schoolwide focus. We then set goals and activities for the upcoming school year. All information is compiled and considered for review and used to make informed decisions that are best for South learners. These plans are laid out in continuous improvement goals that South Elementary educators will work on throughout the upcoming school year. Information is collected from various sources including, but not limited to, parent, staff and student surveys, demographic data, achievement data, program data and perception data. The following goals are our focus for the 26 - 27 school year.
