1944 - Alice Walker ~ (author of The Color Purple) is born
1965 - Martin Luther King ~ (civil rights activist) meets with President Lyndon Johnson to discuss Black voting rights
1971 - Leroy “Satchel” Paige ~ elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame
1995 - Bernard Harris ~ becomes the first Black astronaut to take a spacewalk, dedicating it to the achievements of all African Americans

Glover ASE: Valentines Trees

Students used acrylic paints with paint brushes and their fingertips to create a heart shape around the tree trunk.

ER Day Feb 2nd

"Atomic Adam" went on tour last Wednesday to all four elementary schools for a special ER day presentation! Students learned about space and our solar system in this interactive show!

Glover kids explored the Milky Way galaxy with tempera paints and different painting techniques. They used toothbrushes to create a flickering effect as well as small nozzle paint bottles for comets and space worms. Gold and silver glitter paint was the finishing touch! Here is Mary Spiegel proudly showing off her finished Milky Way.

Glover ASE Student Of The Week: Ayla N.

Ayla Nash is a second grade student at Glover ASE. Ayla enjoys going outside during After school. Her favorite class in school is Gym! Ayla wants to be a teacher when she grows up. Her favorite food is pizza and her favorite sport is soccer. Fun Fact: Ayla loves to do Arts & Crafts in her free time!

Glover ASE Staff Of The Week: Miranda C.

Miss Miranda Callahan works at Glover both during the regular school day and after school. "I like working with the kids. We have a lot of fun." Miss Miranda believes this job has taught her "to have a lot of patience." Miss Miranda loves to watch tv in her free time. Her favorite food is "a good slice of pizza." Fun Fact: Miss Miranda loves Taylor Swift!

Tucker ASE Student Of The Week: Avery L.

Avery Larkin is a kindergartener at Tucker ASE. She loves going to the cafeteria at ASE. During regular school hours, Avery loves “doing learning and reading.” When she grows up, “I want to be a veterinarian because I really like animals.” Her favorite snack is Pretzels and her favorite sport is soccer. As for a fun fact, "I knew one but I forgot what it was."

Tucker ASE Staff Of The Week: Marisa F.

Marisa Fleurgin is a student at Curry College in Milton majoring in Sociology and minoring in Social Work. “I wanted to start working with children because I eventually want to become a school counselor. This job fit perfectly with my current schedule.” As for why she enjoys this job, Marisa shared that, "“I like how each kid has a different personality. It’s really different. This isn’t a boring job where I would just sit in one place. I get to interact with a lot of different people.” Marisa believes that the children have taught her patience and to get more out of her shell. “I’m a very shy and reserved person but in this job I have to speak up.” Marisa loves seafood. Her favorite sport is Volleyball. Fun Fact: “My mom and I have the same birthday, August 16th.”
