The Principal's Office
Cody Plake, Yantis HS/MS
Parent SMORE
Howdy,
Thank you all for making the first 8 weeks of school a success, and trusting us with your kiddos.
Over the next few weeks weeks, a lot will be going on at YHS/MS.
Please see below.
Cody M Plake
The first 9 weeks will end on 10/13/2023. For UIL purposes, if your kiddo is not passing all classes at this time, he or she will be ineligible to participate in extra-curricular events until the next grade check (roughly 3 weeks). These grades will be the first set of grades that will be used when determining promotion (Middle School) and Credits (High School).
At the Middle School Level, a student must have a 70 or higher average in all classes (for the school year) to be promoted to the next grade.
At the High School Level, a student must have a 70 or higher average to receive credit for the course (not necessarily for grade promotion).
If you have any questions about your child's grade(s), please contact your child's teacher.
Attendance,
If your child is in danger of not being in compliant with the 90% rule (attendance), he or she will be assigned to make up seat time (this is also called Attendance Recovery). TEA mandates that students must be in school for at least 90% of the time to receive credit for the course.
Attendance recovery will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 in Ms. Cox's classroom.
With this being said, I want say "Thank you" for sending your kiddos to school. Their presence helps in a variety of ways, but your willingness to trust us with your kiddo, helps set them up for future success.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...
Student Council
Congratulations to the students below for being selected as Student Council. Being part of our Student Council is a big deal. These kiddos will help make decisions that we will use throughout the year.
Our Next Early Release Day is 10/13/2023 @ 1pm.
HS Volleyball
District play begins on Friday as we play Avery. The Lady Owls have been putting together a string of victories over past couple of weeks and look to enter district play at a high level.
Good Luck, Ladies!
MS Volleyball
Our MS Volleyball team has had a very good year. They have been competitive and successful on the court. YHS has a very BRIGHT future with these Lady Owls!!! They have an upcoming district tournament and look to perform very well.
Good Luck!!!
Our Cross Country teams have been very competitive throughout the season. They have been fighting through injuries and the heat. The District Meet takes place on October 13, and we look forward to their performance.
Good luck, Owls!
MS Baseball
A new law passed over the summer regarding Vapes. The new law states that any student caught with a vape device with or within 300 feet of a school or school event must be placed in DAEP.
Kona Ice will be at YISD again on November 8.
Graphic Design
Ms. Cox's Graphic Design class is learning how to use Adobe Illustrator, and other Adobe products.
The students will take certification exams throughout the year demonstrating their learning of multiple Adobe products. It has been very neat watching them progress throughout this year, and I can not wait to see what all they accomplish throughout the rest of the school year.
Spirit Days
Thank you to all kiddos that have participated in our Theme Days. It's a very cool thing to see sooooo many kiddos participating and making YISD an AWESOME place to be!
Red Ribbon Week
Congratulations to Mrs. Shimp for being recognized as our GOAT at YHS/MS.
Congratulations to Clifton Gamblin for placing 5th with his heifers at the Hopkins County Jr. Heifer Show and making sale.
Congratulations to Lily and Sage for placing 1st in class at the East Texas State Fair.
Thank you Mrs. Mills & Mr. Moore for arranging to have the State FFA Officers come to YHS. It was very nice watching these officers explain the importance of Ag to our kiddos.
YISD School Calendar
Back to School Paperwork
Over the past few weeks, we have met with all High School and Middle School children who still need to return their forms. Your child should have a copy of the attached paperwork in their backpack.
Completing the paperwork is important because we use this information when making reports to the state. In the past, when we reported this information to the state, it allowed YISD to become eligible for free breakfast and lunch for all students, help us with comparable schools and school accountability, and allowed us to qualify for other resources.
If your kiddo is taking Business English or Financial Math, they have been given the opportunity to participate in Texas College Bridge (TCB). TCB is an online program that ( and is recognized by TEA) that students work on a couple of days each week that focuses on either Math or English. Once the kiddos complete this program, they are recognized as College Career Military Readiness Ready.
Over 120 Colleges and Universities in Texas recognize TCB as an CCMR Indicator. Many of these Colleges or Universities are also located in East Texas. When a student enrolls at one of these Colleges or Universities and have completed the Math, English, or both TCB offerings, the student will be considered CCMR and will not have to take a Math or English remediation course (which will save you money), your kiddo time, and your kiddo won't be forced to take a course that will not go towards a degree plan.
Please click the link to access more information at Texas College Bridge.
If you have any questions about TCB, please feel free to contact me.
FAFSA Night will take place on 10/12 from 5:30 - 7:00 in the Cafeteria.
This meeting will include all things graduation (Transcripts, TJC Admissions, Financial Aid, etc...).
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Garrett.
