Message from Principal Scharmann
Dear Students, Parents, and Families,
We are settling into the school year, and it has been wonderful to see students building routines, making connections, and getting involved in the many opportunities CMS has to offer. I was also proud to see more than 40 volunteers join us for Community Service Day this past Saturday to help care for and improve our campus.
We have now passed the halfway point of Trimester 1, and progress reports will be emailed to families by Thursday, October 1. Please take time to review your student’s progress with them and reach out to their teachers with any questions.
This newsletter includes upcoming events, activities, athletics information, safety reminders, and ways for families to stay connected to CMS.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support,
Brian Scharmann
Principal, Christensen Middle School

To participate, visit www.shopfund.com, select Parents and Sellers, create an account, and share your student’s personalized link with family and friends. Our goal is for each student to find five online supporters.
Thank you for supporting CMS!
Message from Vice Principal, Ms. Shiffrin Chi
Have you set up your Schoology parent account yet? If not, we encourage you to do so! A parent account allows you to see your child's grades, upcoming assignments, and any overdue work — all in one place. You can even link multiple children to a single login. It is also a great way to communicate directly with your child's teachers and stay engaged in their school experience.
If you already have an account from last year, simply go to this link to log in. If you have forgotten your password, select "Forgot Password" and you will be on your way. If you are still having issues, please email Ms. Shiffrin Chi.
If you have never created an account, keep an eye out for a direct email from Ms. Shiffrin Chi with your personalized access code and step-by-step instructions to get set up.

Message from Athletic Director, Ms. Mendoza
Registration is now open for anyone interested in participating in our athletics programs this year! Here are the requirements for being cleared to participate in Christensen Middle School athletics:
- Register for all sports that the athlete is planning on playing this year HERE.
- All athletes planning on participating will need to have an updated physical. We require a signed physical by a doctor within the last 12 months. Here is a link to a physical form that can be used: LVJUSD Physical Form. Other forms signed by a doctor may be acceptable but must specifically clear athletes for participation in sports. Physical forms will only be accepted through Home Campus (link above).
- CMS athletes must have received a 2.0 GPA on the previous trimester's final report card. Incoming 6th graders are not held to this requirement until an official grading period has been completed.
Our athletic seasons are underway! For game and meet schedules throughout each sports season, please visit the CMS website calendar.

Message from Counselor, Ms. Feinberg
Welcome to the start of the "'ber" months! This time of year brings a fresh season of growth for our middle schoolers—along with unique challenges as they navigate new routines, changing weather, and academic demands. September also marks Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and Self-Care Awareness Month, making it an ideal time to focus on our students' mental health and emotional well-being.
Middle school is a period of rapid development, and seasonal shifts alongside busy schedules can sometimes bring heightened stress, anxiety, or mood changes. As parents and community members, you play a vital role in creating a strong support system where our young people feel safe, valued, and understood.
What to Watch for at Home
Changes in Routine: Noticeable shifts in sleeping habits, appetite, or personal hygiene.
Emotional & Social Withdrawal: Pulling away from family, dropping out of favorite activities, or isolating from friends.
Increased Irritability or Fatigue: Persistent moodiness, unexpected outbursts, or frequent complaints of being constantly exhausted.
Somatic Signs: Frequent headaches or stomach aches without a clear physical cause, often linked to stress or anxiety.
How We Can Partner Together
Keep Conversations Open: Ask open-ended questions about their day, validate their feelings without immediately trying to "fix" them, and let them know it is always okay to ask for help.
Encourage Healthy Habits: Support balanced routines around sleep, snacks/ meals, personal hygiene, screen time, outdoor activity, and stress relief.
Reach Out for Support: You are never alone in supporting your child. If you notice persistent changes in your child's behavior or well-being, please reach out. I am happy to provide resources, check- in with your student, and collaborate with your family to best support their growth!
There is so much value in partnering to keep our middle schoolers safe, supported, and thriving. Let's work together to make this autumn a healthy and positive season for our entire community!
