from PHS Principal Mike McLaughlin
Friday, September 11, 2026
Our first athletic and activities eligibility list comes out Monday morning. Our eligibility policy is attached below.
We will have a Saturday School opportunity next Saturday, September 19 from 9-Noon for students who might need to work off some tardies or absences as we approach Homecoming Week. Our Good Standing Policy is also listed below. Notices on the number of absences that might put a student out of good standing will be going out Monday as well. Good Standing status can be recovered in attendance/tardy situations by attending a Saturday School
I am asked more about the following dates than any others. They are all included in our Important Dates section but I though I would add them here so they can get on your calendar ASAP.
-Homecoming Week is September 21-26 (Parade Wednesday, Football Game Friday, Dance Saturday).
-Spring Break is March 22-26
-ACT Day is Wednesday, April 7th
-Prom is Saturday, April 3rd.
-Last day for seniors is Wednesday, May 12th
-Class of 2027 Commencement is Sunday, May 16th at 1:00.
All of our schedules are on Bound and here is a link to a calendar view.
We have several policies on attendance that are very important and can all be found in our Operations Guide or the District Student & Parent Handbook. Here is a link to our Curriculum Guide .
As always, if you have specific questions feel free to reach out to me at school any time.
Go Trojans!
If there is information that you feel would be beneficial but is not included in this email please reach out to me at school anytime. michael.mclaughlin@spcsne.org

Parking for Home Football Games
Tomorrow is our first home football game. The Platteview Forward Project will create unique parking challenges this season and we wanted to communicate as soon as possible so you have accurate information.
As you can see on the map below, the only parking lot available to the public will be our North Lot. The spots in the two rows in what remains of our West Lot as well as assigned slots in front of PC will be reserved for our Band and Football teams and those slots will be filled no later than 5:15 on game days.
I must emphasize, there can be no parking in areas in front of PC by the public. We know this will create new challenges so I encourage all of you who plan to attend to do the best you can to carpool and/or minimize the number of vehicles you use to attend the game. In addition, there are 9 handicapped spots in our lot. There are 2 at the main entrance, 4 in the lot near the main entrance and 3 near the tennis courts. These spots are indicated in blue on the map below.
Also, with the addition of our portable classrooms and the potentially unsafe issues they create, I ask all parents to please be aware of where your child is while they are at the game. There is too much going on with our campus currently that could go wrong if we all do not play a part in keeping younger kids safe at our games. We would strongly prefer them watching the game - not just running around all night.

New Bus Tracking App Available
The following email was sent out by the District to all families who ride the bus:
Dear SPCS Bus Families,
Springfield Platteview Community Schools, in collaboration with our transportation partner, First Student, is launching First View, a real-time GPS bus tracking and student transportation monitoring platform.
First View allows parents and caregivers to use a secure mobile app to see the real-time location of their student’s bus, receive notifications as the bus approaches their stop, and stay informed about their student’s daily bus trips.
Visit our Bus Tracking for Families page for complete instructions on downloading the First View app, registering your student, selecting the correct routes and setting up notifications:
BUS TRACKING APP FOR FAMILIES – HOW TO GET STARTED
When setting up your account, you will need the following information:
SPCS District Code: F7T3G
Your student’s first and last name
Your student’s school
Your student’s assigned trip information
If you need help with the app or identifying your student’s routes, please refer to the email the district sent on August 10, 2026. If you still have questions or need additional assistance, please contact Nichole Baugh or Lisa Peterson at 402-592-1300.
Important: Because SPCS has a Monday late-start schedule, you may need to select multiple AM routes, one for Monday late start and another for the Tuesday–Friday regular start schedule. Students who ride different color routes in the afternoon may also need to select multiple PM routes.
Please review the instructions on our Bus Tracking for Families page carefully and make sure all applicable trips are added for your student. You can also download the instructions here.
We’re excited to offer First View as another way for SPCS families to stay informed and connected with their student’s transportation.
Thank you for your continued patience and partnership!

Drop Off and Pick Up Locations for PHS
Please pay close attention when dropping off or picking up in our North Lot. See both maps. In the morning, dropping in front of our main entrance works fine. After school, please wait for your child to come to you near our tennis courts in the northeast section of the lot. There is a sidewalk they can use the entire way. Thank you in advance for helping us keep the parking lot safe. Also, in the strongest of terms I want to encourage all drivers - especially young ones - to use extreme caution in our parking lot moving forward. All PHS traffic can only enter and exit from the northern most entrance off of 108th near the cooling tower. All PC traffic will use only the South drive. Our bus lane will be in front of PC until the driveway between the two schools is complete.

The Platteview Forward Project
August 28 update: The rain has created delays on our north side but the internal renovations are well ahead of schedule. The overall timeframe may be adjusted if the lost time cannot get made up. We still anticipate that at least four of our portables teachers will be moving back into the renovated north wing. All other areas are on track as of today.
We are excited to begin the 2026-27 school year—a year that will mark the beginning of a historic transformation for Platteview High School.
Thanks to the support of Springfield voters, construction is now underway on a two-year renovation and expansion that will modernize our campus and prepare Platteview for the continued growth of our students and community.
When the work is complete, one of the most significant improvements will be a secure connection between Platteview High School and Platteview Central, eliminating the need for students to walk outside between buildings during passing periods. The project will also include an expanded commons/cafeteria, a new Media Center, at least five new classrooms, and a state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center, along with numerous renovations throughout the existing building.
While we are incredibly excited about what lies ahead, we also recognize that a project of this size will create temporary disruptions. Throughout the next two school years, portions of our campus will be under construction, and there will be times when routines, traffic patterns, parking, or event logistics look different than they have in the past.
Rather than viewing these challenges as obstacles, our staff has chosen to see them as part of the journey toward something extraordinary. Our mission remains unchanged: to provide every student with an outstanding learning environment supported by a positive school culture built on Relationships, Community, Intentionality, and Perseverance. We know there will be unexpected challenges along the way—that is simply part of any major construction effort—but we are committed to approaching each one with flexibility, patience, and optimism, knowing the end result will benefit Platteview students for generations to come.
I ask all members of our Platteview community—students, families, staff, and visitors—to join us in embracing this process. Your patience and understanding, particularly during large events when parking and traffic may be more challenging than usual, will help make this transition as smooth as possible.
Communication will be a top priority throughout construction. Beginning this year, each weekly newsletter will include a dedicated section called The Platteview Forward Project, where you'll find the latest information on construction progress, parking updates, traffic flow, bus routes, event logistics, and other important announcements.
Thank you for your continued support of Platteview High School. Together, we'll navigate the temporary inconveniences while keeping our focus on the incredible opportunities that await our students in the years ahead.
The district maintains a website dedicated to the overall project. That LINK is here.
Below is an illustration of what our parking/entrance situation will be until at least January, 2027. This is an earlier rendering so the portables are not accurate. There are 4 portables with 2 classrooms in each. If you have Mr Arch, Mr Hopp, Ms Gillespie, Mrs Falch, Mrs Hartwig, Dr Kersulov, Mr Lundeen or Mr Comine you will have a class in one of the portables. As of today, our only entrance continues to be the east football field entrance. The activities entrance will be open for the start of school.

International Exchange Student Host Families Needed
Platteview High School is excited to welcome international exchange students for the upcoming school year! These students bring new perspectives, cultural enrichment, and wonderful opportunities for our school community to learn and grow together. EF High School Exchange Year is currently seeking volunteer host families who are willing to open their homes and hearts to an exchange student for a semester or full school year. Host families provide a safe and supportive home environment, while students come with their own spending money and insurance.
If your family is interested in making a positive impact and experiencing a bit of the world from home, please reach out to local coordinator, Pam Opperman, 402-699-2455 or Pam.Opperman@efexchangeyear.org or look at some of the available students at:
Bound Instructional Videos
With our move to Bound, we wanted to share some useful videos that will help everyone make this transition as smooth as possible. The first video is on redeeming and sharing family and/or student athletic passes.
The second video is on assigning a ticket or a pass.

Our Core Values
At Platteview High School, we are committed to building a strong foundation that helps every student succeed. Over the past year, our staff and administration worked together to thoughtfully develop and agree upon a set of core values that reflect who we are and what we believe will help every student be successful, not just in high school, but in life: Relationships, Community, Intentional, and Perseverance.
While these are the shared values we have chosen to guide our school community, we also respect and celebrate the fact that each individual and family has their own personal values. Our goal is not to replace those, but to create a common foundation that strengthens and supports every student's growth, belonging, and success at Platteview.
