South of the River Powwow - May 4th South of the River Powwow - May 4th

Each year, our school district collaborates with the South of the River Indian Education Committee to host our annual South of the River Powwow. Our goal is to bring the community together and share culture through song & dance while we honor the academic achievements & accomplishments of our American Indian students who are graduating from a south metro area high school.

This year, we are hosting this celebration and honoring at Burnsville
High School on Saturday May 4th, 2024
. Some of our plans include a free luncheon/feast, a traditional lacrosse scrimmage with Twin Cities Native Lacrosse, inviting the Twin Cities Native Honor Guard (veterans) as well as drum groups & dancers and of course the honoring of our American Indian High School Graduates. This event is free and open to the public and we encourage all those in the south metro to join us that day.

Twin Sheet/Blanket/Comforter Drive ends Monday! Twin Sheet/Blanket/Comforter Drive ends Monday!

Our Interact Club is hosting a bedding drive for the organization called “Sleep in Heavenly Peace”. This organization collects bedding and builds beds for families that do not have enough beds and bedding for all the members of their family. Interact will be collecting standard twin sheet sets, blankets, and comforters. These items MUST be NEW!

When purchasing bedding for this drive please consider that many of the recipients of the beds and bedding are teenagers as well as smaller children. The bedding/comforter patterns can be geared towards older children/teenagers.

The bedding drive will run Monday, April 22nd through the 29th. Bedding can be dropped off at the East entrance before school. See Mrs. Elliot or Mrs. Urbanciz for any further questions!”
