THANK YOU, PARKER FAMILY!!! 🤍 THANK YOU, PARKER FAMILY!!! 🤍

Last week, you all filled my heart in ways I am still trying to put into words. From the cards, notes, and thoughtful tokens of appreciation, to the text messages, hallway birthday wishes, special videos, and even nearly being taken down in the cafeteria by second graders eager for hugs and high-fives. Every moment meant more than you know.

Thank you for the genuine love, kindness, and encouragement you showed. None of it went unnoticed, and all of it is deeply appreciated.

Serving this campus is truly one of the greatest honors and highlights of my life. I am incredibly grateful to walk through this chapter alongside such an extraordinary community of students, staff, and families. My heart is full, and I am thankful beyond words.

CELEBRATING MR. JOSE MEDINA 🥂 CELEBRATING MR. JOSE MEDINA 🥂

It is with both deep gratitude and heartfelt emotion that I share with our Parker community that Mr. Jose Medina will be retiring after seventeen years of devoted service to Parker Elementary. Mr. Medina has been a beloved and steady presence on our campus since 2008, serving under five principals and supporting countless teachers, staff members, families, and—most importantly—students along the way.

During my year and a half at Parker, I have come to know Mr. Medina as someone who is truly one of a kind. His work ethic, humility, and quiet commitment to our school have left an imprint on this campus that cannot be replaced. Whether it was early mornings, long days, challenging weather, or unexpected circumstances, Mr. Medina showed up every single day with care, pride, and a deep sense of responsibility for Parker and its people.

Mr. Medina often speaks about the joy he found in our students—their smiles, greetings, and the small moments that made each day meaningful. That joy was mutual. Generations of Parker students have felt his warmth, kindness, and dedication, and our staff and families have benefited immensely from his steady support and unwavering love for this community.

After much thoughtful reflection, Mr. Medina has decided that his final day at Parker will be January 5th. While we know this news may be emotional for many, we are incredibly thankful for the many years he has poured into Parker and for the legacy he leaves behind.

We are currently planning a celebration to honor Mr. Medina and his extraordinary service. Details will be shared soon, and we look forward to inviting our entire Parker community—staff, families, students, alumni, and friends—to join us in celebrating someone who has given so much to this school.

In the meantime, if you see Mr. Medina in the hallway, please take a moment to share your love, appreciation, and gratitude. Every kind word matters.

Mr. Medina, thank you for seventeen years of dedication, heart, and service. Parker is better because of you, and you will always be a part of our Parker family.

A Quick Update on Parker Pulse Announcements 📰 A Quick Update on Parker Pulse Announcements 📰

Some of you may have noticed that Parker Pulse announcements are no longer appearing as regular posts in ParentSquare. These updates are now being sent as Campus Alerts within the ParentSquare platform.

This change allows important information to be delivered by text message and email at the same time, while also keeping all Parker Pulse announcements stored in one central location. This means messages no longer need to be pinned to the timeline and can be easily accessed later.

To view Parker Pulse announcements in ParentSquare:

  • On a mobile device, tap the Alerts icon (the small megaphone).

  • On a computer, select Alerts and Notices.

You will find a dated list of Parker Pulse announcements there for easy reference.

📘 COMING SOON: PARKER PARENT & STUDENT GUIDEBOOK 📘 COMING SOON: PARKER PARENT & STUDENT GUIDEBOOK

We are excited to share that Parker’s Parent & Student Guidebook will be released to families by the end of this week. This guidebook has truly been a labor of love—created through the collaborative work of our administrative team and campus leaders, with thoughtful discussion and feedback from our most recent SDMC meeting.

While much of the information may feel familiar to returning families, we know that not all Parker students, parents, or staff are returners—and even for those who are, policies and procedures are often shared across multiple Parker Pulse editions or by word of mouth. This guidebook brings everything together in one centralized, easy-to-reference place, so families no longer have to search past newsletters or rely on memory for important information.

Inside the guidebook, families will find clear guidance on campus expectations and procedures, including:

  • Arrival and dismissal routines with map

  • Attendance and communication protocols

  • Dress code and grading practices

  • Lunch visits and lunch drop-off procedures

  • Volunteer expectations and VIPS requirements

  • Field lessons (field trips) and safety guidelines

  • Student behavior expectations aligned to Parker PROUD

We also want families to be aware that the guidebook outlines a few updates that will roll out in the Spring when we return:

Beginning this spring, all parents and visitors attending lunch visits or Suzuki private lessons will need to be VIPS approved. This decision was discussed at length with SDMC and leadership, and it reflects our shared commitment to student safety. These visitors have access to instructional spaces and students throughout the building, and the VIPS process is a simple background check that typically takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

Also beginning this spring, the guidebook clearly outlines our Lunch Drop-Off Policy. Lunches must be dropped off before 10:00 a.m. so they can be delivered before lunch begins. This allows our front office team to focus on their primary responsibility. Reminder: food delivery services such as DoorDash or UberEats continue to not be permitted.

The guidebook also clarifies expectations around Field Lessons (Field Trips). These experiences are extensions of the classroom and must follow district safety guidelines. Parents may only attend if officially selected and approved as a chaperone, may not join the group at the venue, and may not check students out during a field lesson. These guidelines protect all students and ensure trips remain safe, organized, and equitable.

Looking ahead to the 2026–2027 school year, lunch visits will officially begin after Grandparents’ Day lunch visits, which will serve as the opening of lunch visitation for the year. This allows students and staff time to establish routines and procedures before opening lunch visits more broadly.

We are incredibly proud of this resource and confident it will support clarity, consistency, and partnership across our Parker community. Once released, we encourage families to review it together and keep it bookmarked as a go-to reference throughout the year. It will also be available on the website and on all Parker Pulse editions at the bottom.

CONCERT ATTIRE REMINDER 👔 CONCERT ATTIRE REMINDER 👔

Please remember that students must be in full concert uniform in order to perform. Students who are not dressed in the complete required performance attire will not be able to participate and will be asked to sit out of the performance.

Required performance attire includes:

  • Red Parker performance shirt (tucked in)

  • Black slacks (no jeans, no leggings)

  • Black socks

  • Black dress shoes with black soles

To support a smooth and focused performance day, parents will not be permitted to pull students from class or from the performance to change clothing. Students are expected to arrive at school already dressed in their full performance attire on the day of the concert.

We understand that unexpected situations can arise; however, all students must be in the required performance attire, including the correct pants and shoes. No exceptions or adjustments will be made.

Thank you for helping our performers look sharp, professional, and stage-ready.

📣 Spring Master Schedule Updates 📣 Spring Master Schedule Updates

As we prepare for the Spring semester, we want to remind our Parker families and community of several upcoming master schedule adjustments. These updates were thoughtfully discussed during the recent Principal Chat & Chew and SDMC meetings and are rooted in our continued commitment to maximizing instructional time, strengthening academic outcomes, and improving the overall flow of the school day.

Fifth Grade Schedule Update
Beginning in the Spring, fifth grade will move to a four-teacher instructional model to increase focused instructional time in Reading and Math.

  • Mr. Kabay will continue teaching Reading and will be partnered with Ms. Bennett, who will teach Math and Science.

  • Ms. Morales has returned and will teach Reading, partnered with Ms. Bascom, who will teach Math and Science.

This structure allows for deeper content focus while maintaining strong teacher collaboration and consistency for students.

Science Lab
Ms. Quiocho will be transitioning into a dedicated Science Lab role for the remainder of the school year. This shift allows her to focus exclusively on expanding science exposure and strengthening achievement across the campus. Increasing science achievement is a key campus goal, and we are excited about the impact this focused role will have on student learning.

Lunch and Recess Adjustments
We have made slight adjustments to some lunch and recess schedules to support a smoother flow to the day and maximize instructional transitions.

CCR Rotation Updates
CCR rotations will be modified to better support student schedules and teacher management while also allowing us to address additional campus needs, including technology support and classroom lesson extensions for GT and accelerated learners.

Parker students gathered on Saturday evening for the Westbury Deck the Halls Parade. Some students walked with their Cheer squad or rode in decorated trailers with their Scout troops. Mr. Berry drove with a pack of MINI Coopers!

The Parker Art Car represented Parker Friends with lights and music. Thank you so much to the students who came out to walk with the Art Car and pass out candy canes! We hope to see even more Parker students at the parade next year.

Every year, Parker participates in HISD’s Name that Book reading competition at both the K-2 and 3-5 grade levels.

Interested students must read all 5 books above and complete the try-out test. The 6 students who score the highest on each level will be the team members. The teams then compete against other HISD elementary schools in the spring.

In order for students to participate, they must be up to date on schoolwork and love to read. They also need to have good comprehension, retention and listening skills, along with excellent behavior. A list of the books can be found on the back of this paper. Please keep in mind that this is not a reading club but a competitive team.

The competition will take place the first week of March 2026 during the school day.

There will be an online informational meeting:

Monday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 PM for PARENTS.

Minute Minutes with the School Counselor⌚ Minute Minutes with the School Counselor⌚

This Fall semester, as part of the district initiatives for each counselor, the district asked the counselors to meet with each one of their students for a few minutes. The objective is for the counselor to build rapport with each one of the students in her caseload and for the students to identify the counselor as a helper or someone they can talk to at school if they need to.

I was able to meet with all 900 students at Parker, interview each one of them, and complete the project the week before Thanksgiving. I can assure you, although at first I thought it was going to be an impossible task, it has been one my favorite projects so far. I truly enjoyed getting to know each student a little better and making a quick 1-1 connection with each one.

I would like to share some of the answers that came up a lot.

PreK-2nd grade students

  1. What is something that makes you smile? my mommy, my teacher, butterflies, ice cream
  2. What are you curious to learn this year? math, science, to read, to read better, bigger numbers
  3. When do you feel most calm? when I am at home, when I am alone in my bed reading a book and listening to music, when I am reading, when I am with my mom, when I am with my dad, being outside in nature

3-5th graders

  1. What is the one thing that makes you smile? My friends, jokes, something funny
  2. What is something you are curious to learn this year? math, percentages, long division, science, science experiments, how to cook dinner
  3. What is a tradition or a routine that is important to you? Coming to school, getting ready to come to school, getting to school on time, brushing my teeth, my morning routine, Christmas, seeing my family during Holidays, recess
  4. When do you feel most calm? when I am at home, when I get home, when I am with my mom, when I am snuggle with my parents, when everyone is doing what they are supposed to do and the classroom is quiet, when we are reading at school and everyone is quiet, at the Parker library, during art class, when I am outside
  5. What is something we can do to make our classroom feel more like home? Include others, ask more questions and really get to know others, bring pictures from home, it honestly already feels like home, take all the desks out bring couches and a TV in, play quiet music, be kind to each other

If you are curious about what your children answered, I suggest making it a family activity. Find some time to ask your students these questions sometime this month. Give your answers a thought too and share with your children how you feel as well.

I really loved listening to the children share their answers with me. The heart-opening answers really touched my heart.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us. We really do have the best students, parents, teachers and staff here at Parker Elementary. Wishing everyone an amazing Holiday Season. Get some rest and we will see you back in 2026.
