Monday Morning Message
As educators, we legally assume responsibilities to act in loco parentis (Latin for "in the place of a parent"), providing day-to-day care, discipline, and supervision. I am sure many of you have even mistakenly (or intentionally) been called "Mom" by a student before, which usually stems from high levels of comfort, trust, and time spent with you. So...Happy Mother's Day and soon-to-be Father's Day to you as parents at home and/or in loco parentis to many kids at school every year!

The Gathering Grounds
Here is the modified schedule and plans for May 14th! The steel frame is installed now, and the tiled tops will arrive on Tuesday. We have it roped off, but please help us in keeping kids away from the frame until after the reveal.
Spartan Olympics
You will have your Advisory during WIN on Monday (3/11), Tuesday, (3/12), and Monday (3/18) only. This is a good opportunity to finish Olympic sign ups, make spirit signs, and prepare a competition plan.

June 23rd School Partnerships Session! Click Here: RSVP: June 23rd School Partnerships Celebration – Fill out form Join colleagues from across 21 partnership schools for an afternoon of connection, exploration, and planning as we launch into the upcoming year. Experience the museum’s expansion through the lens of student learning, collaborate across schools, and leave with clear pathways for field trips and classroom integration. This event is designed for all partner school educators (not just steering committee) and special guests (school board members, library/community partners). Attending on June 23rd is an additional $80 stipend, and this is available to all school partner educators, not just steering committee members.
*Please note you cannot receive financial compensation AND count it as a district Flex Day hours, but you can attend for one or the other.
Library Updates
Library Books Due
Teachers, please help us keep an eye out for any & all SMS library books (most have our barcode on the front). I have sent students on a 'hunt' to find these missing books by rewarding them with a piece of candy for any SMS library books they find. So apologies in advance if they ask to start looking through your books. :) As you are cleaning or packing up your rooms, please help keep an eye out for these books. All missing books are checked out to a student who is either trying to find it or is working on paying for it---so they would appreciate any of your finds!
Library Field Trip
Here is the list of the 70 students who will (probably) be attending our end-of-the-year library field trip this Wednesday, 5/13. Students had to complete 3 out of our 4 quarterly challenges in order to earn this field trip. The final challenge is due Monday, so this list will be finalized by the end of the day on Monday. Students will be called to the library around 9:10am on Wednesday & will return around 1:45pm. Be sure to congratulate these students on their hard work this year!

Shout Outs
Thank you to Rhett, Stephanie, and Heather for organizing and facilitating ATLAS testing! Great job to everyone for preparing our students and administering the assessment.
Shout out to our Weekly Warrior, Sara Osuna, who received the sword from Willow Jongewaard!
