MHS STUDENT & FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Week of March 3 - March 7, 2025
RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
Hello Mustang Nation,
Welcome to March! It is hard to believe we have just over three months left of this school year. Things will be move quickly as we enter April and May, so now is the time for students to be working hard to stay on track with their classes and ensure they do not fall behind.
Importance of Following Your Schedule
Because we are so far into the school year, and students have had many months to understand the expectations we have for them, staff and administration are applying some increased focus in the areas of attendance to class, tardiness to class, and class cuts. Some students learned timely lessons this week in terms of the importance of following one's assigned schedule. It is difficult for teachers to help students learn when they are late to class or decide to miss out on large portions of a class - these types of choices have been met with immediate restrictions to help remind students of their personal responsibilities. As students demonstrate greater personal responsibility in their performance restrictions are decreased and removed entirely. Thank you, in advance, to our parents/families for helping to reinforce expectations with your students surrounding their assigned class schedules.
Hallway/Schedule Restrictions Explained:
Hallway/Schedule Restrictions mean that a student is not permitted to be in the hallway without an adult escort besides during the passing time between blocks. This also means that students are not permitted to get a pass from their scheduled teacher during a block to go to another teacher - this includes Mustang Time. Students who are on hallway/schedule restrictions have forfeited the opportunity to deviate from their assigned schedule during all blocks (HR, 1, 2, MT, 3, & 4).
March Madness:
Last March, despite some key injuries to an aging staff team, our school experienced great success in terms of school culture with the March Madness Dodgeball Tournament coordinated by the Class of 2025. The Class Officers, along with Mrs. Pellegrino and Mrs. Proctor, are working on coordinating another tournament for our students and staff to enjoy. The timeline for the tournament is projected to be longer than last year due to a decrease in our Mustang Time block. Please tentatively mark your calendars - with confirmation of dates to be publicized this week, for the week of March 24, the week of March 31, and a few days during the week of April 7 for a slate of games to be played. When these dates are confirmed we will communicate the parameters of the tournament, eligibility requirements for students to participate and attend, and any scheduling adjustments that may be needed (most likely dropping homeroom on the days we are hosting games to be able to add that ten minutes to our Mustang Time block). I have not inquired with the all staff team from last year, although it is likely we won't jump in this time around to ensure we maintain unbroken, un-wrenched knees, and un-pulled muscles/tendons. It would be great to have an all staff team (or two) if you are up to it!
'A Clown's Tale' Performances
Due to some unexpected illnesses the MHS Theatre Troupe postponed their One-Act performances to this coming Tuesday, March 4 and Thursday, March 6. Both performances will begin at 7:00 pm in the MHS Auditorium. Admission is free although donations are accepted to help further this bustling MHS program!
As a reminder, our upcoming week will follow the Green/White color rotation schedule below:
Monday 03/03 - GREEN
Tuesday 03/04 - WHITE
Wednesday 03/05 - GREEN
Thursday 03/06 - WHITE
Friday 03/07 - GREEN
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow
Photographs Wanted for the Athletic Department!
The Athletics Department is seeking high-quality photographs for the Athletics TV Slideshow, which is displayed in the hallway near the gymnasium. This slideshow runs continuously throughout the day and is visible to all passersby.
Student-athletes who would like to contribute photos are encouraged to submit images to zacharypicard@rsu57.org. Photos should feature athletic teams from the current school year and may include action shots or team/group photos.
