Congratulations to the RMSST Student Council
The 2026 Southern Association of Student Councils (SASC) Annual Conference was held in Blythewood, South Carolina last weekend from Saturday October 10th to Monday, October 12th. Due to the impacts of Hurricane Isaias our students were not able to travel until Sunday October 11th. Despite the delay, the RMSST Student Council members Neil Sethi, Khori McFarlane, Ryan Lin, Jackie Pimentel-Martinez, Rickie Reed, Aniyah Williams, Ashley Chen, Jazlyn Osorio-Canseco, and Layla Towns, chaperoned by sponsor Mr. Ruffin, showed up and upheld our wining traditions.
Congratulations to Student Council President, Neil Sethi who earned1st place in the 2026 Senior Level Speech Contest and was also awarded a $250 SASC scholarship. Congratulations to Jackie Pimentel-Martinez whose creativity earned us 1st Place in the 2026 SASC Poster Project. Great job Student Council.
Extended Tutorials Available Tuesdays and Wednesdays Weekly
Extended Tutorial is planned on Tuesdays, and Wednesdays each week this semester. Students can stay after school for ANY teacher's office hours, clubs, and/or teams and then report to the extended tutorial. Students must be picked up by 6pm on extended tutorial days. This allows families a later window for transportation while allowing students access to extracurriculars and office hours. Below is the schedule for the week.
Progress Reports
PSAT/NMSQT and SAT School Day - October 21, 2026
The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized assessment closely connected to the SAT and cosponsored by the College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The test offers students the opportunity to become familiar with the format of the SAT exam and gives students information on their areas of strength and what areas they need to work on. The test also provides the opportunity for juniors to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. The exam will be administered to students in grades 9 - 11 on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at RMSST.
The SAT School Day allows students to take to take the SAT during the regular school day at their own school, during normal school hours instead of on a weekend. This initiative is designed to simplify logistics, reduce stress, and allows students to test in a familiar environment on campus. The test will be administered to seniors on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at RMSST. Thanks to the Magnet Fund for providing this opportunity for our seniors.
Students need to report to school on time on Wednesday. The tests will be taken in the morning. Students should check the lists in the cafeteria to determine their testing location.
Helping Atlanta's Little Ones (HALO) CAPE DAY Fund Raiser
Join us on Friday, October 23 to celebrate CAPE Day at Magnet. Cape DAY is an annual event in honor of the superhero patients battling illnesses and injuries at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. We will wear capes on Friday to honor the superhero patients and to show them that they aren't fighting alone.
The RMSST Helping Atlanta Little Ones (HALO) club will be organizing the event. We ask students to participate by wearing a cape on Friday and are encouraged to donate $1 to HALO as a CAPE Day fundraiser which will be donated to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. HALO will also be selling small goodie bags ($2 or $5) with proceeds being donated from those sales to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. I look forward to seeing the capes on Friday. This is a great way to give back to the community.
Monster Dash Fun Run - Cancelled
Due to limited ticket sales, we unfortunately will be cancelling the Monster Dash Fun Run for this year. This is a staple event for Magnet, and we will be working hard to ensure that we will have an awesome event during next school year. Thanks for the support and hard work of the planning committee.
