Digital Learning Family Newsletter
August & September 2025
Welcome Back, SFPS Families!
Back to School, Back to Balance: Parents as Digital Role Models
We’re excited to kick off the 2025–2026 school year with our first edition of the SFPS Digital Learning Family Newsletter. This year, we’re focusing on online safety, teacher training with GoGuardian, Canvas, and Seesaw, and exploring all that Google Workspace has to offer.
Our theme for August/September is “Back to School, Back to Balance: Parents as Digital Role Models.” Families can model healthy tech habits in simple ways—like setting aside tech-free moments or talking openly about digital choices—without guilt or shame. It’s about finding balance that works for your family.
Inside, you’ll find resources and Family Tech Planners to help spark conversations and set technology goals together. We’re here to support you every step of the way!
💡 Monthly Tip: Carpool Conversations
Car rides or family walks can be great opportunities for conversations with kids, especially teens. Carpool Conversations is an audio series from Common Sense Media that invites adults and kids to have discussions about digital literacy and well-being. You can listen to these with your students or on your own to help inspire future conversations.

📋 Family Tech Planners
The family tech planners linked below can be used to set rules and practices for screen time as a family. Each section helps you navigate the discussion with your kids about which platforms and devices are okay to use, like TV, tablets, phones, and video games. We recommend posting the planners somewhere at home to reference and update as kids get older!
The planners are grouped by age ranges 2-8, 9-12, and 13+. Planners are also available in Spanish.
