No reason for boredom! We have several Summer Challenges for students!

Students and families are encouraged to participate in the Read to a Million 2026 Summer Reading Challenge and the Davison Community Schools Wellness Committee's 200 Hour Outside Challenge.

Summer Reading Challenge

Did you know that if students do not read over the summer, they can lose up to three months of what they learned in school? If this continues through sixth grade, that is the equivalent of losing 1 1/2 years! That is why summer reading is so important!

This year, Davison Community Schools is once again partnering with the Genesee Intermediate School District for our Summer Reading Program. We encourage all DCS students to participate and log their reading hours by completing the Google form below

Get Outside Challenge - Can you spend 200 hours outside?

The Davison Community Schools 'Wellness Committee is hosting a challenge to get students and families outside this summer. Did you know spending time outside reduces stress, encourages creativity and curiosity, builds stronger family connections and creates long lasting healthy habits?

Beginning July 1, students are encouraged to keep track of the time they spend outside - whether it's hiking, biking, playing games, exploring nature, fishing, gardening, camping and even reading outside (which you can also log your time for the Summer Reading Challenge!).

The goal is to spend 200 hours outside between July 1 and when students return to school on Monday, August 17. We would love to highlight students and families participating in the challenge on our social media pages so please send your photos to medwards@davisonschools.org.

Students participating in the Challenge should place their name, grade and school on the Hours Logged form below and turn it in to the main office at their school building during the first week of school in order to have their name placed in a raffle for some cool prizes!

DHS/DAE Students of the Month for June

Congratulations to the following students named as June Students of the Month at Davison High School and Davison Alternative Education.

Freshman - Micah Hensley

Nominated by: Mrs. Crongeyer

Micah has thrived this spring while many students struggle. Micah is a baseball player that has to miss my class 6th hour frequently due to early bus times. He has ALWAYS made the effort to get his work from me ahead of time and has even taken assessments early in order to stay on track. Many athletes during the spring season have a hard time keeping up with their schoolwork but Micah is proactive and it has truly paid off. While he is in class he works diligently and collaborates well with his classmates. This is exactly what we expect from our student-athletes at Davison and I hope more students follow his lead in the future!

Sophomore - Addison Wallberg

Nominated by: Mrs. Crongeyer

Addison is an amazing student that is so kind to all of her classmates. She comes to school with a bright smile on her face and is always ready to work. On numerous occasions I have witnessed Addison explaining the material to students that were absent without even being asked. She was probably able to explain it better than I did! I am so lucky to have Addison in my class and seeing her each morning puts me in a better mood!

Junior - Berklee Stimson

Nominated by: Mrs. Weir

I am honored to nominate Berklee for Student of the Month. Berklee consistently demonstrates kindness, empathy and leadership, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around her. As a LINK, Berklee goes above and beyond to ensure that all students feel welcomed and included. She has a natural ability to recognize when someone may be struggling to form friendships, and she takes thoughtful, intentional steps to reach out. Berklee makes others feel seen, valued and supported. Berklee’s inclusive mindset and genuine compassion help create a positive and welcoming environment for everyone. She is patient, understanding and always willing to lend a helping hand. Her actions not only support individual students but also strengthen the sense of community within the school.

Senior - Layla Ash

Nominated by: Mr. Maynard

I am writing to recommend Layla Ash for the Davison High School Student of the Month. Layla is a very motivated and diligent student. She approaches class work with consistent effort and a clear desire to improve. In class discussions she contributes thoughtfully and respectfully, offering comments that show careful reading and attention to detail. When assignments are given, Layla consistently completes them on time and to a high standard.

DAE - Dakotah Keehn

Nominated by: Mrs. Zimmerman

Dakotah is a courteous student who does his best to listen and work quietly in class on his projects. I noticed that he has the ability to show others how to implement directions and will frequently mentor them through the steps, helping his classmates kindly, without doing the work for them. Lately, I have seen him encouraging other students to complete their work. I think Dakotah would be a wonderful teacher because he has the gift of patience.

Athletics Athletics

Davison Community Schools Accepted into the Oakland Activities Association Beginning in 2027-28

Davison Community Schools is proud to announce that it has officially been accepted as a member of the Oakland Activities Association (OAA), with competition set to begin during the 2027-2028 school year.

Davison High School will continue competing in the Saginaw Valley League through the 2026-2027 school year before making the transition to the OAA the following fall.

This decision comes after extensive evaluation, discussion and planning by the Davison Athletic Department and Administration. The move aligns with the district's commitment to providing outstanding opportunities for students while positioning Davison Athletics for long-term success and growth.

"The decision to join the Oakland Activities Association was not made lightly," said Athletic Director, Dave Beamer. "This is a strategic move that reflects our commitment to excellence and provides tremendous opportunities for our students, student-athletes, coaches and community."

Widely recognized as one of Michigan's premier athletic conferences, the OAA is known for its high level of competition, strong academic and extracurricular programs and commitment to student development. The league's unique divisional structure allows schools to compete within divisions that are adjusted annually based on each sport's competitive success.

This model benefits all athletic programs by ensuring teams compete at an appropriate level while maintaining opportunities for advancement. As some athletic program cycles naturally change over time, Davison teams will have the ability to move between divisions, creating meaningful competition and supporting continued program growth.

The OAA's divisional alignment system offers several advantages:

  • Increased competitive balance across all sports.

  • Opportunities for programs to compete at the level that best matches their current development.

  • Enhanced postseason preparation through consistently strong regular-season competition.

  • Flexibility for programs as participation numbers and competitive cycles evolve.

In addition to varsity competition, the OAA places a strong emphasis on sub-varsity athletics. Most member schools field Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams, creating more scheduling opportunities and competitive consistency for developing student-athletes.

Beyond athletics, the OAA provides valuable opportunities through its Unified Sports League and student leadership initiatives. These programs align closely with Davison Community Schools' mission of developing well-rounded students and fostering leadership, inclusion, character, and personal growth.

"The opportunities available through the OAA extend far beyond athletic competition," said Superintendent Matt Lobban. "The conference's commitment to student leadership, professional learning and educational experiences makes it an outstanding fit for Davison Community Schools."

The move represents a strategic alignment with the district's goals of excellence, prestige and continuous growth. By competing against some of the state's strongest athletic programs while benefiting from a dynamic divisional structure, Davison students will be challenged both mentally and physically, helping prepare them for success in postseason competition and beyond. Games will be at a high level of competition, which will be great for our Cardinal fans in the stands.

Davison Community Schools would like to thank the Saginaw Valley League and its member schools for the relationships and experiences built over many years of competition. The district looks forward to completing the 2026-2027 school year as a proud member of the Saginaw Valley League while preparing for an exciting future in the Oakland Activities Association.
