Care for Self and Others 💚 School Assembly Care for Self and Others 💚 School Assembly

On Thursday, we held a school-wide assembly focused on one of our core JC norms: "Care for Self and Others." It was a joy to recognize our "High Flying Eagles" who have consistently demonstrated compassion, kindness, and responsibility toward themselves and their peers. We also took this opportunity to congratulate our newly elected student class representatives who will be serving as voices for their classmates in the coming months. The assembly concluded with a heartwarming moment as all scholars joined together to sing our beloved JC school song, "The Place to Be." These gatherings reinforce our community values and provide an opportunity to celebrate the many ways our students shine. We hope your child came home feeling proud of our school community and inspired to continue embodying our caring ethos.

A Cultural Exchange - Our Turn to Host! 🌍 A Cultural Exchange - Our Turn to Host! 🌍

zoom_out_map

We're excited to share the success of our most recent cultural exchange program with the Japanese School of New York in Riverside, CT. Our scholars first visited their school last week, and this week we had the pleasure of welcoming them to our campus. The purpose of this exchange was to provide these students with authentic exposure to American school culture, and our scholars were exceptional hosts to our new friends. Throughout the visit, students engaged in a variety of enriching activities including question games that sparked conversation, collaborative math challenges, exploration of different learning stations in our media center, and sharing typical American snacks. The cultural connections formed during these interactions were truly meaningful for all involved. We extend our sincere gratitude to Mrs. Grandinetti and Mrs. Murray for their dedication in coordinating this valuable experience, and a special shout out to 3G for their outstanding job hosting our visitors. These cross-cultural opportunities help our students develop global awareness and communication skills that will serve them well in our interconnected world.

Student Council 🤝 Student Council 🤝

We held our first Student Council meeting this week, and it was truly inspiring to see the enthusiasm our young leaders brought to the table. Our scholars eagerly shared their innovative ideas, ready to serve as voices for their peers and make meaningful contributions to our school community. The representatives thoughtfully discussed ways to address student concerns and their creative initiatives. Their commitment to service and leadership was evident throughout the meeting. We are looking forward to the many ways these dedicated scholars will help boost our school pride and spirit in the coming months through special events, service projects, and community-building activities. Their energy and fresh perspectives promise to make this a remarkable year for our entire school family.

For the Love of the Game: Michael Jordan and Me 🏀

In honor of Black Heritage Month—and in celebration of Michael Jordan’s birthday on February 17—we are reading For the Love of the Game: Michael Jordan and Me by Eloise Greenfield, illustrated by Jan Spivey Gilchrist. This poetic tribute captures Jordan’s power, grace, and seeming ability to defy gravity, using his legendary skill as inspiration for children to spread their own wings and fly.

As a young boy and girl prepare for “the game of life,” they hear voices of doubt but also encouragement from those who love them. Inspired by Jordan’s determination, they take their own stance and choose their own paths. The text is filled with rich basketball imagery and an uplifting message, while Gilchrist’s watercolor illustrations bring movement and strength to every page. With its soaring language and striking eagle motif, this book will inspire young readers to rise above challenges and chase their dreams—just like Jordan himself.
