Year 6 Graduation and Secondary School Choices
On Friday June 13 the Year 6 students, families and teachers joined together for a heartfelt and celebratory ceremony and buffet dinner at the Members Club at the Shatin Racecourse. This year, each graduate (along with family members and teachers) packed a time capsule that they will return to open on Open Day 2035! We are looking forward to that special moment a decade from now!
And, where are our graduates heading for secondary school? We are pleased to share that out of our 29 graduates, a little more than half will attend our through train secondary school, ICHK! Beyond ICHK, there was a broad set of choices made by our graduates. This year our grads are also heading to:
Shatin College
Harrow
American Int’l School
CDNIS
Chinese International School
German Swiss International School
Kellet School
Malvern
KGV
And, of course, a couple of graduates will be heading overseas for secondary school.
Congratulations to all of our graduates! We look forward to hearing about your secondary school adventures!
Celebrations of Learning
On June 24th we had the pleasure of welcoming parents to our Celebrations of Learning! Students had the opportunity to showcase their understanding of their unit(s) of inquiry, as well as their skills in English, Maths and Chinese. Learners took an active role in planning and presenting their work for the Celebration, confidently delivering their presentations whilst engaging with questions from family members.
Upper Primary tried some new Celebrations of Learning approaches this year: Some highlights included Year 4 students presenting an exhibition on the topic of human migration, exploring its challenges and opportunities. Additionally, the Year 5 exhibition demonstrated students’ learning of energy sources, offering detailed explanations of different types of energy and interactive activities for the audience. Meanwhile, Year 6 students illustrated their understanding of physical and chemical properties through exciting science experiments and the use of microscopes.
Congratulations to our learners for your hard work and impressive presentations!

Admissions Waiting List for Kingston Primary - KIK Grads Exempted From Worry
Over the course of this school year, and especially since the start of 2025, we have noted a significant increase in applicants to Kingston Primary. Rather than turn away talented and personable children who want to join our community, we have decided to open two new classes to start off the 2025-2026 school year, one at Y4 and one at Y5. Even with the opening of the new classes, we have been forced to create a waiting list for some of our grade levels. Of course, KIK graduates will always have spaces reserved for them in our Y1 classes, so there is no need to worry about getting a space in our unique and amazing primary school so long as you register this coming December for your child’s space in August 2026!

Chinese Debate Friendly Match
On June 5th (Thursday), our Chinese Debate Team members (Y5.2 Olivia CHAN, Y6.1 Jason HUANG, Y6.1Fiona ZHANG and Y6.2 Frank FEI) represented Kingston in the Fourth International Schools Chinese Debate Friendly Competition against Canadian International School of Hong Kong. The topic for the fourth competition was “Should lucky money be given to children to keep by themselves?”Kingston argued in the affirmative: Lucky money should be given to children to keep by themselves. In This clash of eloquence and exchange of thoughts, congratulations to Y6.1 Fiona ZHANG, who was again awarded "The Best Debater" in this competition. Her closing speech was brilliant and she truly deserves this title! During this competition, our Kingston debaters performed admirably in their oral expression, thinking skills, instant response and refutation technique, which reached the level of a professional debate team! We will lead them to participate in more and larger debate competitions next year!
Turquoise Sustainability Presentation for Year 5 and Year 6
Last Friday morning, we were very pleased to welcome Basel Kirmani of Turquoise Sustainability to Upper Primary to speak with our Year 5 and Year 6 students.
During his visit, Basel focused on the importance of adopting sustainable practices in daily life, emphasizing the "Three R's"—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle—and highlighting why reducing consumption is the most critical step we can take.
Through interactive discussions and thoughtful activities, our students had the opportunity to:
Explore practical ways to implement sustainable thinking in their daily lives.
Assess and reflect on their choices and actions.
Develop the skills and mindset to contribute to a more sustainable future.
Our aim was to inspire learners to think critically about their consumption habits and empower them to make small but impactful changes that would collectively benefit the environment.
We are very grateful to Basel for bringing a very profound and practical starting place for all of us to play our part in a sustainable future!
Y1 and Y2 Puppet Show
On June 10th (Tuesday), our Y1 and Y2 students enjoyed a shadow puppetry show. This is an art form that has over a thousand years of history and is the origin of drama and opera in China. They watched “The Monkey and The Turtle”, “Martial Art ”, “The Rooster and The Centipede” and “The Sea World”. They also had interactive activities with the performers!
Y2 Chinese Tea Art Performance Workshop
To give students a deeper understanding of our unit - "How We Express Ourselves" - Y2 invited KIS teacher Yannice CHEN to host a "Chinese Tea Arts Performance Workshop" on Thursday, 5th June. The aim was to enhance students' appreciation for this artistic form of Chinese tea culture. Ms. Chen vividly recounted the legendary folk stories behind famous Chinese teas, so that the students can understand the origins of the tea names. She also demonstrated the tea utensils used to brew different tea types, and perform tea arts, teaching the students how to appreciate the aroma, colour, and taste of tea, as well as the etiquette and cultural expression of tea drinking. They all loved the workshop!
A New Kingston Painting
We are grateful to Y4.2 Jeremy Lau for creating and donating the latest Kingston painting! Jeremy’s masterpiece is now hanging in the Upper Primary lobby for all to enjoy!

Alumni Updates
It is June! At Upper Primary, June is also known as Alumni Month. This is because many Alumni drop in at Kingston having either just graduated from secondary school, or they are visiting Hong Kong, having finished their current term at university overseas. Or, and this is hard to believe, they have already begun their adult careers, such as Nick (Class of 2013, now working at BMW in the USA) who is visiting Hong Kong for the first time in a decade! That's him on the right. It is a great pleasure and honour to be able to spend some time visiting and catching up with our alumni, and we thought we would share a few of their stories here:
Kingston's Class of 2018 Graduates Head to Universities Around the Globe
Mr. John was recently invited to attend the secondary school graduation of a number of Kingston Alumni! Congratulations to Class of 2018 Kingston Alumni Ernest, Denis, Sanni, Arianna, Jasper and Travis! While Arianna knows she will attend Northwestern University on a golf scholarship, the other five await their final IBDP marks before deciding which of their many conditional offers on multiple continents to accept. Business, Aviation and Biomedicine and Education programs await!
Other Alumni Heading for University
Choices, choices, choices! That’s the theme of this Alumni roundup! Kingston’s class of 2018’s Molly (plus mom, dad and younger sister and KIS Alumni Mia), Anson, Sum Yee and Jessica stopped by to say hello before Molly’s graduation ceremony at Shatin College. Anson completed his secondary school in Toronto and is bound for the University of Toronto in September. Molly, Jessica and Sum Yee have been conditionally accepted to universities in London, Hong Kong, Canada and Australia. We look forward to hearing where they choose to attend after their IB Results are in!
It was great to have Anson, Ernest, Travis, Jasper, Arianna, Shelyn and Kiana visit Kingston last week to discuss their plans for the future. Again, the July 6 IBDP results date proves important as many are waiting to see which conditional offer they will follow through with. We are very proud of our grads and the fact that they are able to make choices and are most certainly destined for success!
Transferring to NYU
Kingston Class of 2016 Lauren and KIS Alumni Yu Kin came by to visit Kingston last week. Yu Kin, who finished secondary school in the UK and went on to start university there, will be transferring to NYU and joining his former classmate Lauren there.
