Friday Updates
September 26, 2025
From the Principal's Desk
Dear SHS Families,
There were a few exciting messages that came from my desk this week. First, the school is planning its first-ever parent mixer for Friday, November 21st. See my previous email for more details, to give input, and follow the event on Facebook. We hope to see you there. Also, the conference sign-up went out early Friday afternoon. These meetings are important milestones of the school year for you and your student’s teacher to put in place the proper measures for your student’s success. We ask that you make signing up for them and attending a priority.
As September turns to October, I consider the beginning of “spooky season” to be underway, and I suspect that Halloween costumes are being thought about and purchased. That's why I like to send out a reminder for costume expectations for class Halloween parties well in advance. Remember that the age range that we serve here at SHS is as young as 4 to 12 years of age, the atmosphere that we create at our Halloween celebrations is fun and festive, and not frightening or scary. With that in mind, here are a few guidelines that I am asking students to follow with costumes:
No make-up of any kind
Any costume whose purpose is to frighten or instill fear is not allowed
Masks are discouraged. They may be worn, however, if they are deemed acceptable by the classroom teacher.
Props such as fake knives, swords, guns, or any other object that promotes violence are not allowed. Things such as wands and shields may be used at the discretion of the homeroom teacher.
Fake blood of any sort is not allowed
Costumes that would interfere with a student’s ability to walk, move, or sit appropriately in the classroom are not allowed (inflatable suits, etc.)
Next Thursday, we are having our annual Guardian Angel Mass, where the Kindergarteners showcase the work they have put in to learn their Guardian Angel Prayer and receive a blessed Guardian Angel figure from Father Clem. We invite you to come encourage our Kindergartners and join in one of my favorite school celebrations.
With Faith & Hope,
Patrick (P.J.) Greer
