This month's Leader of the P.A.C. is:

  • Our first honoree is Ms. Sharla Calhoun Porter, a fifth-grade teacher at Perales STEAM Elementary School. Ms. Porter’s dedication to student success shines through how she motivates, challenges, and inspires her students every single day. Ms. Porter is a wonderful example of how Goals Matter—she pushes her students to know that with hard work, there are no limits to what they can achieve.

Our second honoree is Roxanne Ruiz, Director of EISD Child Nutrition. Ms. Ruiz demonstrates every day that People Matter and Goals Matter. She works tirelessly to ensure our students receive healthy, balanced, and nutritious meals that give them the “fuel” they need to learn and succeed. She is always ready to step in, whether that means working on a serving line, helping in the kitchen, or simply being an extra set of hands. Ms. Ruiz also collaborates across departments, finding solutions that strengthen district-wide support for our students.

Our third honoree is Brooklyn Medina, a senior at JFK High School. Brook was nominated for her outstanding leadership on her campus and beyond. As an active member of Business Professionals of America, Teen Ambassadors, and the JFK Student Council, she truly shows us how People Matter by volunteering her time with school and community organizations to support and uplift others. And as a four-year letterman in both volleyball and softball, Brooke clearly understands that Goals Matter, too. We’re also proud to share that Brooke recently signed her letter of intent to play college softball at the University of Dubuque—congratulations!

Introducing Captains Xavier Cruz and Luis Rivera of the “MHS Insurgence Drum Line” ... the 2026 T-E-C-A State Champions! (Look at that trophy!)

We would also like to recognize Captains Maddy Mendez and Leana Morales of the MHS Color Guard. The Guard finished *SECOND at state... also bringing home a trophy for the Minutemen.

The students are joined by MHS band director Dr. Esteban Montalvo and color guard director Cassandra Dodson.

They are also joined by EISD Bus Drivers – Earline Garza and Anthony Gonzales. These drivers not only helped get the students to the state contest, when the band was short-handed and needed help setting up equipment, they didn’t hesitate to step in and help!

This season, the Memorial High School Men’s Soccer team made school history. The Minutemen Soccer Team Captains Christopher Membreno and Javier Rocha, head coach Leon Aleman and assistant coaches Rolando Castillo and Rene Rodriguez.

On the heels of a hard-fought regular season, this team won bi-district, won Area and then made it to the Regional Finals for the first time this century.

These athletes “juggled” academics and soccer to show they are a force to be reckoned with.

Gentlemen, congratulations!

If there’s one medal to get this Fiesta season, it’s this one.

This isn’t just any medal. It is the official “Pothole Patrol” medal, created by Edgewood Fine Arts student Adrian Jimenez.

This is the second year he’s won the contest to design the City’s official medal. Congratulations Adrian for your creativity and dedication!

Our next recognition is one that we are extremely proud to share.

The EISD Marketing and Communications Department recently earned 10 Star Awards at the Texas School Public Relations Association. The awards were for photography, logo design, writing and “informational” video.

This year's five award-winning photographs and one from last year are now proudly displayed here in the DCC.

“People Matter” is one of the key pillars of EISD.

Augustine Trevino, Ryan Martinez, Nate Ochoa and Jaydin Hurtado took this to heart when they helped launch “Fellowship of Christian Athletes” at JFK.

Counselor Daniel Ascencao (a shin so) and Mr Robert Griffis for creating a place where JFK students can learn, can share their faith and feel supported.
