DKHS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
"Do A Job"
OCTOBER 31, 2025
Happy Halloween from DKHS. Not my personal favorite holiday, but I hope you enjoy the weekend and stay safe. Another full week at the high school. We have stored grades from M1, but are going to hold report cards until we complete the 2-week window that students still have to re-do or complete some summative assignments and improve their grades. You can always see their current status in PowerSchool. We hope that all kids take advantage of this policy and get things taken care of in a way that brings more success. After the 2-week window closes, we will post the updated grades and send report cards.
A couple of our student groups have been busy planning and working on some service projects. The Interact Team has been helping with building the new trail out behind the Community Library, and our NHS students hosted a Blood Drive here in our gym on Friday. This is a longstanding project, and our students always rise up and donate. We appreciate the gift of life they and many others give.
On Thursday, we hosted OKAY2Say, who presented to our kids about the path they can use to anonymously report a concern for safety or wellness they might have for a peer. This platform has proven to bring real safety and support for kids who were struggling to get the help they need. We also had many of our EMT and Allied Health students training with our Delton Fire Department on the proper use and discharge of a fire extinguisher. Thanks, DK Fire!!
On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to go with the band to the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre and watch our own Maggie Martin perform as Elsa in the Junior production of Frozen. I was blown away!! She is a really talented young lady, and she crushed all aspects of her role. I literally was moved to tears as I love seeing our students thrive. We are proud of you, Maggie, and look forward to seeing where your talents and work ethic take you in your upcoming theatre career.
The DKHS FFA group attended the National Conference this week for 4 days in Indianapolis. A week packed full of learning, leadership development, networking, and team building. We have some kids who will be competing in the FFA Districts/Regionals and possibly State Competitions in the coming weeks.
On Thursday, we were able to pick up a donated hospital bed from Pennock for our Allied Health and EMT simulation lab. Thank you, Mrs. Lundquist and Pennock Hospital, for that gift, and Mr. VanHoose, whose truck and muscles we used to unload and deliver to the lab. Shout Out also to Mitchell Swift, Roman Hull, Mr. Tyner, and Mr. Meyers, who all helped with lifting a very heavy bed off the trailer. That makes you all this week’s Hogies Heroes for DOING A JOB!!!!

FIRE SAFETY PRESENTATION
A few of the Allied Health and EMT students joined Perry Shepard from the Delton Fire Department to learn the basics of fire safety. Learning important safety acronyms such as PASS (Pull pin, Aim nozzle at base of the fire, Squeeze, Sweep) and RACE (Rescue, Alert for help, Contain, Evacuate) help students learn hands-on and can relate this to healthcare fields. Students practiced with a fire extinguisher and a fire hose to aim and hit the target to knock down a pretend fire.
A sincere thanks to the Delton Fire Department for your time and dedication to our community!
HOSPITAL BED ARRIVED
Exciting Developments in Allied Health & EMT Education!
The Allied Health and EMT classes are thrilled to announce the coming together of the new simulation lab, designed to give students hands-on experience with real-world healthcare skills. This initiative supports our goal to prepare students for future careers in the medical field.
Today, with the generous support of Mr. Hogoboom, Mr. Vanhoose, Mr. Tyner, Mr. Myers, and students Mitchell Swift and Roman Hull, we successfully moved a hospital bed into the new sim lab. This bed was graciously donated by Corewell Health Pennock, and will serve as a key piece of equipment for student training.
Additionally, the Allied Health program received a grant from the Delton Kellogg Education Foundation (DKEF) to help purchase essential tools and equipment that will enhance our students’ ability to learn relevant patient care skills.
We are incredibly grateful for the support from our community and partners. As Mr. Hogoboom says, “Do a Job!”—and today, our staff and students certainly did!
