Houston Happenings: Week of 10/6
**Our messaging platform was offline Saturday through Monday. Now that it is back in action, I wanted to send this week's Houston Happenings. Please see below.
Happy Sunday, Houston!
It's the last week before fall break!
We had a great evening last night at the homecoming dance! We’re so thankful for our entire SGA team for their hard work and creativity in making it all happen. I hope your students had a blast! While the dance was happening, THE Houston Band was winning first in their division at the Tournament of Champions and our cross country teams were running in the Frank Horton Classic. We were reppin the H all over the county last night!
This week is packed with fun dress-up days, a pep rally, and our home football game versus Arlington! Our girls soccer team will take on Collierville on Tuesday. Our volleyball team is playing in and hosting the district tournament on Wednesday and Thursday. Golf is at state. And so much more! It's going to be a busy week!

HHS Tutoring 2025–2026
Students have several opportunities to get extra help through tutoring at HHS. Please note: sometimes tutoring sessions may be canceled, so students should always check Schoology before attending to confirm the schedule. Some teachers ask that students sign up in advance to attend tutoring—please follow their instructions to avoid confusion. Students coming before school must have a hall pass or note from the teacher in order to enter the classroom area before 7:30 a.m.
College Visits
Our college visit season is in full swing! Students can sign up for all upcoming college visits through Naviance to learn more about potential schools and programs.
Tennessee Governor’s School Applications Are Now Open!
If you're a sophomore or junior interested in this exciting opportunity, be sure to attend one of the three remaining interest meetings to learn more about the application process and important HHS requirements and deadlines.

Student-Directed One Acts
September 2025 – Houston High’s annual Student-Directed One Acts brought together dozens of students, showcasing eight ten-minute plays that highlighted creativity, leadership, and the power of student-driven theater.
Over the past couple of nights, Houston’s stage came alive with creativity during a tradition that is both unique and enriching: the Student-Directed One Acts! This special opportunity allowed our thespians to step into new roles as writers, directors, and stage leaders, guiding their peers through the process of creating short plays. These ten-minute productions, each directed by upperclassmen, showcased not only the talents, but also the leadership and vision of students who took charge of different aspects of production.
Directors included Spencer Malahy, Brayden Daugherty, Becca Graubart, Jaden Brown, Evelyn Dluhos, Kyle Jolly, Veronica Velychko, Preesha Dubey, and Ivy Kruzan, a mix of juniors and seniors eager to take on new responsibilities and step into an unknown world. Dozens of students auditioned and participated, filling spaces both on and off the stage, and the result was a weekend of engaging performances that highlighted the power of student-driven theater.
The One Acts have quickly become a beloved tradition at Houston High, giving students a chance to experiment with storytelling while uniting cast and crew in a shared creative process. Audiences were treated to a wide range of 8 different shows, from serious dramas to exciting musicals, each offering its own perspective, humor, and heart.
A sense of pride and accomplishment filled the theater across both nights, as the Student-Directed One Acts once again proved how much talent and dedication our Mustangs bring to the stage.
